I'm going to come out and say it. Generally speaking, Dark Horse comics bore me. I think that's the reason I've fallen way behind on the Buffy comics. It's not that I think they're bad or out of character or that the art is awful or the dialogue weird or wooden. They simply bore me. When the carpet is more interesting than the comic book in your hands, something is seriously wrong. So, Dark Horse and me fell out. It was just me and DC and Wildstorm trying to ignore Marvel because I'm too poor to get dragged into another world that is as big as DC. But, this week, Dark Horse came back into my life. I has made a discovery.
Sickness and a sudden obsession with Star Wars, both brought on by the SFX Weekender forced me to track down Star Wars comics. There are rather a few! I narrowed it down to the original Marvel adaption from the 70's and any that are currently ongoing. Knights of the Old Republic is a current title from Dark Horse. It's set during the era of The Old Republic, 4000 years before the birth of Anakin Skywalker. The main character is a young Padawan by the name of Zayne Carrik and the story follows his exploits when he is accused of slaughtering his fellow Jedi Learners. He's cute, kind, accident prone and has a wobbly grasp of the Force at best, and anyone who thinks he's capable of murder is a total idiot. This comic is uncomplicated, bags of fun, well written, well drawn and has brought back my faith in Dark Horse comics. I have snotted, sneezed and read my way through all 49 issues so far and I love it. It's definitely in my top ten fav comics.
Under the cut are a couple of scans I found amusing.
Zayne and Gryph (little fury dude I really want to squish) are running from a pack of Rakghouls. These creatures are a plague. If they bite you, you change into one of them. While on the run, they cross paths with a Jedi Knight.
