Water Baby

We've given her a bath in her little baby tub, which she tolerated with minimal whimpering...but tonight, she took a buttermilk bath with Momma, and I swear I've never seen such a blissed out, contented little baby in my life. She was like a fish, so at ease, and so calm as I slowly moved her through the water. Maybe being born underwater (after 9 months floating in it) helps... I think this may become part of our bedtime ritual, really. Afterward, once Daddy had diapered and dressed her, she cuddled up, stared into my eyes for about 10 minutes, and drifted off, quiet and happy and peaceful.

This (with all its sleeplessness and soreness and frustration) is the best thing I have ever done. No question. Though I can't believe I waited this long, I'm glad I did, because the way it's all working out for this family right now is just...perfect. Our friends are blowing me away with their help and support. The fridge is overflowing with food, and we are rich with visits from aunties and uncles and loving support... everyone is turning out to welcome this girl to a wonderful world and a loving community. I had no idea there would be so much attention and rallying to welcome her.

We are really blessed...now I really know what that word means. My heart is just blown open.
