You can't compare the male/female dynamic in the US to the POC/white dynamic in the US, so this analogy doesn't follow.

I guess I'd see it worse if you were saying it to someone who was gay or fat. Because those are two groups that are still openly discriminated against in MAINSTREAM. Particularly fat people, where they are discriminated against by other fat people.

Are you saying that fat people are more discriminated against in the "mainstream" than people of color? On what do you base this? Tell me what experience you've had as a person of color in this society that you can make this statement.

and one more positive comment and one less negative comment in this world is completely and totally needed.

It's a compliment that insults more than it flatters, way more.

Yeah, no one's ever givien me shit for being black. They totally notice that I'm bisexual first, what with the bisexual tag on everything I wear.

Actually, I think I'd start by giving you shit for being, on technical points, gothier than me. Because, just as your icon says, you've got more black per square foot, whereas my pallor is so 1990s compared to your "life-tan." Or, if you prefer, DEATH-TAN. *explodes*

I'm clearly jealous. Where can I get some gay tags on my clothes? Do I have to go get a pink triangle tshirt first or can I just run straight to the rainbow mini-skirt-for-men?

Can I discriminate against you today because you're black, and tomorrow because you're bisexual?

Cuz I wanna give the isms equal time and all...

Also, does that tag tell you to wash it in cold water or hot? ;)

I saw it as innocent too.
Ignorant? Sure, and she was told as much right away, but it's obvious [to me], that she didn't mean anything offensive about it.

Gawd forbid someone point out something they see as a benefit to looking a certain way.
Would I get bitched out if I told a Native American that I was jealous of her great hair? BECAUSE OMG WE STOLE ALL THEIR LAND AND HOW DARE I NOT REALIZE THAT WTF WTF I AM RACIST.

It's stupid because saying you wish you were black so you could have a "life-tan" shows that you have no clue what else comes with the package.

Trust me, coflower doesn't really wish she was black.

No, I don't think it does. I think it only says that you admire the skin tone of a particular person.

Simply telling someone that they have a beautiful skin tone is showing admiration of their skin tone.

Saying that you want to live with that skin tone, and amounting it to nothing more than a 'life tan', minimizes all of the shit that comes with said 'life tan'.

No, saying, "I think the color of your skin is beautiful" says you admire the skin tone of another person. Saying "I wish I had your life tan" says you wish you could be permanently dark-skinned like Karnythia.
