i am this many baking write-ups behind:

dulce de leche cake [from february, for dad's birthday]

cleveland cassata cake [from, i don't know, march or april or something?, for bort's birthday]

guinness cake [from august, for the russian's birthday]

light and dark chocolate brownies [ditto]

german chocolate cake [from september, for byrd's 20th on-air anniversary]

so i've finally uploaded all the pictures [of questionable quality]. this means the write-ups can only be... some distance behind.

i also have stuff to mention that involves no pictures [because i didn't take any], like vegan lasagna, and i guess i could actually write down the recipe for that shower cake i made.

in other news...

had a dance performance on saturday. i don't think it went very well, but no one else seems to have noticed. there's no document of the event because my instructions to queen b about how to use the recorder were inadequate, so i can neither confirm nor deny my impressions of badness. probably for the best. what does that mean? do-over! next performance will be on the 28th.

[ETA]

went to the santa cruz beach boardwalk yesterday. went on a few rides (a very few, we got there late) and had some carnival food: a deep-fried twinkie and oreos combo. deep-fried oreos remain a tasty tasty thing to me; the deep-fried twinkie was 'eh'. apparently, deep-fried pb&j is the big seller there, so that's what i'll try next time (asked the salesboy how it tasted, though, and he said he'd never had it). have some ride tickets left over so 'next time' will be sooner than later, i think.

before the boardwalk, we stopped in at a chocolate shop and got some liquor-filled chocolate balls (three scotch, one brandy, one limoncello) and a milk chocolate brown sugar some other ingredient i'm probably forgetting soft caramel. after the rides closed at the boardwalk we stopped at a candy shop and got saltwater taffy and chocolate-covered bacon. apparently, this was a weekend to replenish our sugar stockpiles.

(after leaving the boardwalk, we went to dinner at Seabright Brewery, where the russian (a) sampled beers and (b) ordered a hamburger called The Ring of Fire, covered it in hot sauce, ate about half of it, and then understood why the average person would not put a whole bunch of hot sauce on a burger called The Ring of Fire. he'll be having the rest for lunch today. i had The Popeye, so-called because of the toppings of spinach, feta, and roasted garlic, made veggie with the substitution of a portabella mushroom. also tried a pomegranate cider. pretty good meal over all.)

on saturday, we went to Coco's for breakfast. i'd never been, so didn't know they had such monster meals there. i was in a rare 'eat healthy' mode, so had a veggie egg white omelet and fruit (and then splurged a bit on a bran muffin). the russian had chicken and waffles with a side of coffee cake, and then, even as he swore he couldn't eat a bite more, suggested we buy a pie to take home. so the past couple of days he's been having banana cream pie for breakfast (this morning with a side of choco-covered bacon). he mentioned on sunday that he's thinking of canceling his gym membership. i'm just mentioning that because it's funny.
