today's epiphany

What a strange surprise. I didn't encounter a nasty patient today.  Usually I get a lot of bitchy ones, and since today was the last day normal malls are open before school starts, I thought I was going to run into a lot of irate parents and kids who just won't stay still for the NCT. Today was busy, but not like..DROP DEAD BUSY. Wow, so I think I just had a good day today.

Oh, and guess what? I think perhaps Janice is going to get into a lot of trouble. When I came in on Friday, she didn't register anyone's arrival yet, so I did them all myself because she's so goddamn lazy. She had an hour in the schedule where there was nobody walking in for an exam. She could have done that then, but nooo. And she left all the charts from Thursday and earlier that day on Friday for me to enter as well. What a lazy asshole. But anyways, at the end of the day, a lot of the day's accounting didn't match up. Long story short, I realized that two patients didn't pay for their exams, nor were any invoices printed out. There was cash at the end of the day, because Janice took the debit card and an envelope of cash on her way out. I made notes of these events (except for the Janice/debit card thing) at the front desk and today when I came in, Janice left a message saying that the two patients paid via credit card. After telling the Dr. about this, we searched the 'Diary' on the computer for those patients. Two invoices were printed the next day for them, citing the method of payment as MasterCard. However, by clicking "Reprint Receipt", there is a $0.00 value whereas a $88.00 value should have been present.

Hearing this, a few things should have gone off in your mind:
  1. Why would you let someone run off without paying, and not tell the next person coming in?
  2. And why the hell would you print out invoices for them if they didn't pay?!
  3. (Answer to number 2:) You do that only so that you can register those people into the system as "already paid" instead of "just a patient sitting in the computer system with no status"
  4. Debit card and cash..A deposit should always be backed up with a receipt. No receipt in the envelope.
  5. Something's not right.
Anyways. The Dr. told me to call the two people to ask how they paid. It was a husband/wife couple so I gave them a call, only to get voicemail. I guess I could try again when I get back to work. Another funny thing that happened today: a patient came in and as she was paying, she said that the woman who usually works here in the afternoon was really strange (Janice, WHO ELSE?!) because she gave really vague responses to her over the phone and even gave her the wrong number of our office. I instantly took a liking to that woman because I could tell that she was just as pissed off about Janice as I was, and am!

janice, work
