We're due snow, no more than an inch at most sometime between Wed. and Fri. with our high temperature on Friday being a balmy 29 degrees, the low... 12. Do not want! So glad I got the furnace started last week and invested in an electric blanket before that ( Read more... )

Per Weather Underground, the good news is that the temperatures won't be horribly freezing (51F Thursday, 46F Friday), but it might be a good idea to pack an umbrella as rain is likely.

... Apparently he's coming over next weekend.

I keep hearing that you can tell an approaching tornado by the way it sounds similar to a train coming at you. Well, take a look at a map of my lovely city here. They call Hattiesburg the Hub City because among other things, it is at an intersection of 5 different train tracks. I hear trains at all hours of the day and night ( Read more... )

Gustav's track is still well west of here and doesn't show much signs of deviating from that path. Still going to be a bit of a bumpy ride here, but not as bad as if it made landfall in Gulfport. Methinks it should be okay here, but just to be safe, I'll be rearranging the shed so I can get the rest of the small objects and two trash cans stuffed ( Read more... )

So, in just under a 24 hour period, Gustav went from being a tropical storm to a category 4 hurricane, with expectation of reaching cat 5 in another 12 hours. Meep!

I don't know how long this sequence will play out, but it's rather neat to see the eye develop from its Cat 2 stage to Cat 4.

Well, that clinches it, Gustav is definitely going to hit here. My brother saw Jim Cantore from The Weather Channel at one of the coast casinos today. The man is a hurricane magnet.
