creative itch and stuff...

1. I gots me some shiny new shoes: K-swiss Tubes. Oh so very comfy and I don't even have to use inserts... my feet still hurt at the end of the day, but not nearly as bad as it had been. Now if I were to shed some poundage, even that pain would go away.

2. One of my customers yesterday told me a joke. A gentleman at another store was trying to swipe his credit card on the card reader machine without success. The cashier, trying to be helpful, pointed out that he was swiping it upside down. She had to repeat herself a few times, telling the gentleman, "Strip down." The gentleman paused and asked, "Right here?"

Hm, maybe that's one that is better told in person at the register while someone's having a problem with the card reader.

3. Been reading through Neil DeGrasse Tyson's "Death By Black Hole" on my lunch breaks. The bit on LaGrangian points and their possible use as space station points kicked me in my oft contemplated sci-fi graphic novel idea. Problem is untangling this knot of Cowboy Bebop/Star Trek/Star Wars/Stargate/Ghost in the Shell/Crystal Singer/Neuromancer/Integral Trees/Blade Runner/any sci-fi I've ever read/seen & loved and coming up with something more solid other than "space/science = cool" and "chicks actually do dig spaceships". To that end, I've started making a list of books I want to read for reference:

* Simplifying Complex Scenes in Watercolor (Hardcover)
* Painting Mood and Atmosphere (Watercolour Tips and Techniques) (Paperback)
* Putting People in Your Paintings (Paperback)
* Fly Me to the Moon: An Insider's Guide to the New Science of Space Travel (Hardcover)
* Entering Space: Creating a Spacefaring Civilization (Paperback)
* Space Enterprise: Living and Working Offworld in the 21st Century (Springer Praxis Books / Space Exploration) (Paperback)
* The Guild Handbook of Scientific Illustration (Hardcover)
* Mechanika: Creating the Art of Science Fiction with Doug Chiang (Paperback)
* Architecture in Watercolor (Paperback)

I think I'll be keeping the local library busy.

4. Still working on getting the spring semester of doom wiped off the books and getting some financial aid for fall semester. I've only registered for two classes; Calc 3 and Intro to Digital Electronics + Lab... the Advanced Composition was full by the time I got to register. Will have to see about slipping in anyway.

5. I love my not so shiny, yellow, vaguely DRD shaped car.. except for the ignition switch. Apparently it has decided to succumb to a problem typical of my year's model where you stick the key in and no amount of turning or jiggling will get it to turn. I've still got to call the dealership to see what it'll cost to get the switch replaced, but until then, sticking the key in the ignition and hitting it with a hammer will get it to turn. *sigh*
