be a joyride, love

Every night, I tell myself a story when I go to bed. Does everyone do that? Like, I can't think about actual things when I go to bed, or I will never get to sleep, so I think about a happy story instead. I suggested this technique to my Dad last year when he was having trouble sleeping, but he told himself a story about war and monsters and genocide, so CLEARLY he did not understand the concept. I almost always tell myself a fanfiction story, and usually what I'm doing is thinking through a story I want to write (but never will). I've got six or seven in rotation, but more come up all the time, as stories do.

In any case, last night I started off thinking about the always-a-girl Supernatural AU that I want which is a fusion with 10 Things I Hate About You (the movie, not the tv show), where Sam Winchester just wants to be a normal girl and date, but her sister Dean hates everything and is anti-social, and their dad is a paranoid hunter who won't let them date anyway. And like, Lucifer is the charming older boy who really wants to add Sam to his list of conquests, but Sam's not allowed to date unless Dean does, and Dean won't, so Sam ropes mysterious loner Castiel into wooing Dean. But I can't figure out who should be the Joseph Gordon-Levitt character. Boy!Jess? This all came about because I saw two girls walking down the street the other day in long skirts, and the idea popped into my head that if Sam and Dean were girls, John might totally make them wear long skirts with elastic waistbands, because it would take longer to grow out of them than pants. But that would be just for school, because long skirts would be a bitch to train for monster hunting in.

So I was telling myself that story last night, and then out of nowhere my brain decided it wants an Avengers AU where they are camp counsellors. Ha! Steve would be the best/worst. Thor would get a cabin of homesick boys, and go to Natasha, all, "My boys need some motherly attention!" and Natasha would be all, "Your kids, your problem. Go mother them yourself!" and he totally would. And then the next week he'd have a cabin of little girls and he would let them braid his hair and put glitter on his cheeks. Camp Director Fury! Camp Manager Coulson! Clint would be the archery instructor, obvs. I just can't figure out if I want Loki to work at a rival camp that keeps trying to invade Camp Avengers (to TP the cabins and such), or if he should be Camp Avengers' arts & crafts teacher.

And then I had a dream about a Bob Dylan-themed circus show.

supernatural, avengers, stories, dreams
