Gingerbread and all that good stuff

Now that vacations are done for the last few weeks of the year we're actually fully staffed for once. So instead of my usual baking jobs I'm doing the peripheral jobs, like donuts and cake decorating. Which feels really strange. Donuts are a hit and miss job, mostly because the women working at tim hortons are bitches. I don't have a nicer way to put it. And usually when they come to ask me questions I ask them what I did wrong this time. I think my passive aggressiveness keeps them from getting overly demanding with me. Or criticizing unless it's really needed. I didn't say I was a nice person at work.

I am really starting to think that the Bree (the pregnant one) situation at work will end up in fireworks. She came in for her second shift yesterday and I made sure that I didn't have to work overtime to deal with her and left her for my manager. Apparently he was really really really mad that she is now a donut girl. I've heard that he was walking around swearing about it. He doesn't usually do that. So I'm waiting for the update after everyone is finished work but I don't think this situation is going to end well. I also think this will be one of my managers last chances at this store. He's started talking about how he's scared that he's going to be transferred. Personally I don't see that as a big issue. I'm curious to see how things would go without him around.

I also made gingerbread houses happen this weekend. People have been asking for them. Really? It's a house that comes premade and I spend an hour max (including buying the 20 dollars worth of extra candy that we put on) on each house. It's not like people really even buy them. Other than christmas eve when they get desperate for ambiance. But I still find it crazy that they are willing to pay myself and my coworker to actually make them. It was also a little strange doing them this year as my helper is from Korea and I don't think she's ever really decorated a gingerbread house before. So her house mostly just looks like one of mine.

Which leads me to my latest project. Every christmas eve I just sit at home alone doing nothing. I could go to the party that we used to go to every year but the last time I went I spent the evening with Tracy and the mooch. I can do that in my own house. So I figured I could spend my evening decorating a gingerbread house. But not from a kit. So I plan on getting my gingerbread made in the next few days. I'm just trying to think of an interesting design to make it more unique. I think I have it figured out. I also went to the Bulk Barn. It was my first time and I've heard really good things from my coworkers. That place is awesome!! I did come out with a giant bag of all sorts of candy I've never really seen before. I will have a spectacular gingerbread house, only I have a lot of candy. Not that it's really that big of a problem... I'm glad that the location isn't closer to my house or I would be going there more than I really needed to.

I also finally cleaned my car. Man poor Isadora was getting really dirty. I finally checked out the new car wash in my hood. It's really fancy. I guess going somewhere that has been built in the last decade helps. But it takes toonies and loonies and has a convienent digital countdown telling me how long I have. How awesome is that! And it's so much closer than the usual place I go to.

festive season, adventures in baking, easily amused
