Highly Amused

My reign of terror is over at work. Well, it's not really that much terror. But vacations are finally done for the year and I don't have to be in charge for a few months. This stretch has gone slightly better as I didn't have any 5 am wake up calls! Yeah me! And the drama seems to have been mostly confined to days when I wasn't in charge. The latest issue at work is we have this girl, I'll call her Bree, who was hired to package buns. She was terrible. So since Bree was still on probation we tried to fire her. She cried and said it was her meds and store management gave her a second chance. She was still terrible (and not on probation anymore) so they moved her into the back hoping that the donut frying would chase her off. Only to have her call in sick before she worked a single shift because she was pregnant and her boyfriend beat her up. Seriously. So now we know she's pregnant but we still have to train her for a position she's really physically unable to do. Now we have no idea what is going on with her but she is telling other departments that we're trying to fire her because she's black and pregnant. Not that she's a terrible worker. I'm a little afraid.

I was also saddened when I was doing some xmas shopping this week that my cashier at the one store was one of our old donut fryers. I suppose it was inevitable that I would run into one of them sooner or later. I estimate (I don't remember them all anymore) that we've probably gone through at least 12 people in the last 2-3 months. And that has to be a low number. I'm not sure if he recognized me but I sure pretended I didn't recognize him.

I'm also highly amused by the latest mooch situation. It's sad really but a little funny. He was in a car accident where he was at fault and his car is almost dead. Only he can't afford a new one. He has to pay the high interest at the dealership and has been ranting for a few days about how 400 a month seems excessive for a car payment. Really?? One of the girls I work with has higher payments and is a single mom with 2 kids. And makes less money than him. (I know this because he left his tax return on the kitchen table last year and I looked at it. It's my house, don't leave your shit laying around, it becomes MY property.) But I'm amazed how someone who makes more than I do, and has little to no living expenses can't afford a new car. I have been enjoying the show where Tracy mocks every car choice he makes and ruins the experience of getting a new car for him a little bit. I'm also amused with the fact that he seems to be jealous of my car. Maybe it's because he drives a 10 year old neon. You'd be jealous of anything with wheels!

How is Christmas really this close? I did put up my tree. Best decision ever getting my little tabletop tree. Karen at work mocked my lack of lights and I found this awesome ribbon lighting, it's so pretty. And festive enough for me to not get Christmas overload. But it looks like I'm working for most of Christmas; but I'm thinking I'll get New Years off instead. Not that I have any big plans or anything but it's nice to escape the insanity at work for the holidays. I'm also terribly happy about the lack of guests for Christmas. Last year my Mom's crazy ass stepdad and his wife came by. His wife is really nice but her stepdad is a trying man. It made for a slightly awkward holiday last year.

But this year we will get a tour of my Dad's new wine room. He's finished it now but I haven't made it out to see it yet. It sounds very fancy and now he'll be making wine and port all the time with his buddy Denis. He now has 5 different kinds of fruit to make wine with, which fill an entire large freezer. And buckets of his birch water frozen and ready to go. I'm not entirely sure what he will do with it but I think it'll be gifts for everyone they know until the end of time!

festive season, life thoughts, adventures in baking, ranting, dad's projects
