While getting treated for Hodgekins Lymphoma, I got to see the Blue Line Illinois Medical District 'L' station a lot. Between chemo, check-ups and giving blood samples, I was there 2-4 times every two weeks.
The last two days have been pretty hot and pretty humid, and with all that humidity, it's not that surprising that we got some pretty heavy-duty thunderstorms over the past two evenings. And, a few hours ago, while I was doing some work in a coffee shop on the other side of town, not that far from where
vladiatorr works, lighting actually hit the walkway between Damen Avenue and west end of IMD station platform.
A passing driver managed to capture the whole thing on her phone.
Just passed the L collapsing at Racine on 290- unbelievable!

According to the CTA spokesperson, there is no damage to the platform, but the debris had to be removed from the tracks. The transit agency is expected to have the station operational tomorrow, though I imagine fixing the roof is going to take a bit longer.
I got a check-up in two weeks. I guess we'll have to see what the station looks like by then.
