That "walking over my grave" feeling - Chicago weather edition

Jul 24, 2016 22:53

While getting treated for Hodgekins Lymphoma, I got to see the Blue Line Illinois Medical District 'L' station a lot. Between chemo, check-ups and giving blood samples, I was there 2-4 times every two weeks.

The last two days have been pretty hot and pretty humid, and with all that humidity, it's not that surprising that we got some pretty heavy-duty thunderstorms over the past two evenings. And, a few hours ago, while I was doing some work in a coffee shop on the other side of town, not that far from where vladiatorr works, lighting actually hit the walkway between Damen Avenue and west end of IMD station platform.

A passing driver managed to capture the whole thing on her phone.

According to the CTA spokesperson
, there is no damage to the platform, but the debris had to be removed from the tracks. The transit agency is expected to have the station operational tomorrow, though I imagine fixing the roof is going to take a bit longer.

I got a check-up in two weeks. I guess we'll have to see what the station looks like by then.
