Let's talk movies and the Oscars

Feb 24, 2013 17:05

Every year I watch the Oscars even though I think they are completely out of touch with what is a good movie and what qualifies as a classic movie these days. It's like a car wreck...I just can't look away

IMHO The Avengers was the best movie of 2012 but those kinds of movies never get recognized. In fact since Return of the King won, I haven't agreed with much that the academy has rewarded.

Still I do try to see as many of the the nominees as I can. I got close this year but there are still 3 of the best picture nominees I haven't seen. Of the 7 I did see, I'll be rooting for Argo because I really did like that movie best of the nominees. I thought Naomi Watts in The Impossible was great but I don't think she'll win. I didn't see all the fuss about Lincoln but I'm sure Daniel Day Lewis is a lock. Les Miserables is one of my favorite musicals of all time (seen it over a dozen times on stage and I kind of know the entire score by heart) but I really did not like the movie. I adore Hugh Jackman but the energy of the live performance was missing for me.

So what was the best movie you saw this year? Do you agree with the Oscars or do you think they are out of touch? Who are you picks for the winners tonight.

My Oscar predictions
Picture: Argo
Director: Spielberg for Lincoln
Actor DDLewis for Lincoln
Actress Jennifer Lawrence for Silver Linings Playbook
Sup Actress: Anne Hathaway for Les Miz
Sup Actor: Christof Waltz for Django Unchained (though I loved DeNiro in SLP I don't think he'll win)
