Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Bridge Between Worlds: Chapter 5
JD was still standing outside feeling the adrenaline rush when Chloe and Richie drove up.
“I met Superman,” he called as they exited the car. “How frickin’ cool was that?”
Chloe laughed. “Forgive me if I’m just a little jaded. I’ve known him since before he could fly.”
JD opened the door to the motel room and ushered them inside. “It was still amazing to watch him take off.”
“You call Mule?” Richie asked.
“Yeah, he’s contacting Andrew and putting him on alert.”
“I hope you’re right about this,” Chloe said. “I’d hate for her condition to be permanent.”
JD sobered at that thought. He had been sure everything would be fine once Holly was home. “She had another seizure just as Clark arrived. She was in a lot of pain.”
Chloe checked her watch. “They should be there by now.”
Richie ushered Chloe to a seat on the bed. "Guess we do what none of use does well, We wait."
JD shook his head. "I hate this part." He flopped down on the opposite bed.
“Damn it, Clark,” Chloe muttered as the minutes crawled by in awkward silence. “Why haven’t you called?”
JD was concerned about Holly but the original purpose for their visit hadn’t changed. And he figured they all needed something to keep their minds off Holly's condition.
“So, Chloe,” he paused wondering how best to broach the subject.
She looked up at him. “You want to know if I’m coming to visit?”
“Uh, yeah.” Unsurprised that she’d guessed his question. She’d turned out to be everything he’d expected from what Richie and Holly had told him during the ride down. She was smart, feisty and looked damn good for forty-eight. JD blushed as he realized that he did think she was hot for an older chick - woman - he corrected himself. As Richie had pointed out repeatedly, Dean had been an idiot for letting her go and JD agreed wholeheartedly.
“Well, Chlo?” Richie asked. “What’s the verdict?”
JD had to hold himself in check, his impatience for her answer was killing him. He really wanted her to come to Washington.
“I should be much angrier than I am,” she reached over and patted Richie’s hand. “But I understand the unusual circumstances.”
“Does this mean I’m not a dead man?” Richie chuckled.
“Well, let’s just say you’re lucky I didn’t have a sword handy when you first showed up,” she teased.
“I know it was unfair to bombard you with all of this-”
“It’s ok, Rich. I think your intentions were good but you know I have my reasons for staying away.”
Richie nodded as he squeezed Chloe's hand. JD sensed there was something he wasn't supposed to understand passing between them. He didn’t know Chloe well but he got the impression that she was gearing up to tell them to go home without her and he wasn't about to let that happen.
“Holly really thinks you should come back with us,” JD said, knowing that using his sick cousin as a bargaining chip might not be fair. But then again, Holly said the whole process of talking Chloe into coming to Seacouver might be similar to psychological warfare. “You could meet Andrew, too.”
Sadness crossed her features. “I hope Holly is ok.”
Holly had given him permission to tell Chloe about her family’s meta abilities. JD sensed that this might be the time to share that information. “Don’t worry; once she’s back in her world, I’m sure her mom can heal her if there are any lingering effects.”
“Heal her?” Chloe looked up at him, shock on her face. “JD, are you saying that in Holly’s reality, her mother - that is - I’m a meta?”
JD noticed that Richie shared her startled expression. Something about Holly's Mom being a Meta seemed very significant to the two adults sitting across from him. JD didn't know why he'd gained the upper hand but he wasn't about to lose his advantage.
“Holly told me all about her mom’s powers and I thought you would worry less if you knew that she was a meta with the power to heal.”
“Thanks for sharing that.” She laughed as she looked at Richie who just shook his head.
“Who knew,” he quipped. “And she has a family too.”
“I know!” Chloe seemed genuinely surprised by that idea. “Maybe I have been overly cautious about staying in touch.”
JD watched their interaction, he had his suspicions that maybe this Chloe was hiding a similar secret but that was a conversation for another day. “Does that mean you’ll come?”
Chloe’s gaze swung between Richie and JD. “I think at this point it might be worth it just to see Dean’s face when he figures out that Richie’s been in touch with me all this time.”
“You wouldn’t,” Richie said indignantly. “You have to defend me. You made me promise not to tell.”
“She reached around his shoulders to give him a one armed hug. “Don’t worry, Richie, I won’t let him take your head.”
Richie groaned and hung his head. “You are enjoying this way too much.”
“I suppose so. Now, when do we leave?”
“Yes!” JD jumped to his feet and fist pumped the air.
Chloe studied him with amusement. “Wow, he really is a mini-Dean.”

Mule was waiting in the back yard with Andrew. His parents had gone out for the evening and his brothers were engrossed in a video game. It was just a matter of waiting for Superman to deliver Holly. Superman. He’d thought JD was yanking his chain when he told him that but Andrew confirmed that the superhero was a relative.
“I’m sure she’s fine,” Mule said as he watched the Andrew bounce with nervous energy.
“I just knew something like this would happen,” Andrew lamented. “That mirror is not a toy.”
Mule huffed his agreement. “I tried telling JD that but he just thinks he knows everything.”
“Holly, too. The trouble she gets into.” He shook his head. “And I covered for her. I’m an idiot. I should have never let her go.”
“You had no choice. They would have gone any way and then we wouldn’t have been in the loop.”
The two shared a silent acknowledgment that they were the more sensible of the siblings.
A man landed lightly in the backyard. Mule was disappointed that he wasn’t wearing the costume but he understood the need for some semblance of stealth.
“Uncle Clark,” Andrew said as he ran to greet them. “Is she ok?”
“I’m fine,” Holly groused. “And this isn’t our Uncle Clark.” She turned to him. “No offense.”
Clark just laughed. “I’m still tying to wrap my head around you being Chloe’s daughter and I’ve had to deal with a lot of strange stuff in my life.”
Mule walked up behind them. “It’s an honor to meet you, sir.”
“You must be Mule,” he said, shaking the boy’s offered hand. “I’m going to head back and let Chloe know Holly's on her way home; unless you need me to take her upstairs?”
“I can make it on my own,” Holly said. “Thank you.” She hesitated before giving Clark a quick hug.
“My pleasure,” he replied. “Now get going before another one of those tremors hits.”
“Yes, sir,” Holly quipped as he took off.
“That was too freakin’ cool,” Mule said as he watch the figure disappear in to the night.
“You get used to it,” Holly said as she tried to head into the house but found the way blocked by Andrew.
“Are you really okay?”
“Can we talk about this on the other side please? Then you can say I told you so in the privacy of our own reality.”
Andrew smiled through his concern. “Oh and I will be saying it a lot. Alfred’s taught me six new ways since you’ve been gone.”
The siblings headed into the house and up into JD’s room without incident.
“Tell JD he has to let me know how everything turns out.”
“I will,” Mule assured her. “You, too. Let us know if the tremors stop.”
“We will,” Andrew said as he pushed his sister into the closet. “Thanks again, Mule,” and they were gone.

Two Weeks Later
JD had been disappointed that Chloe been unable to get away from her responsibilities at The Daily Planet on such short notice and ride with them to Seacouver. He’d been looking forward to getting to know her better but she’d promised to visit soon and that day was finally here.
Richie had gone to the airport to pick her up. JD was waiting in his bedroom for Holly’s arrival. She’d insisted that she deserved to see the reunion considering she’d practically died trying to get Dean and Chloe together.
The mirror shimmered to life and Holly stepped through. JD almost expected to see Andrew following close behind. “Your bodyguard finally take a day off?”
“He’s actually gotten tired of saying I told you so,” she laughed. “He’s returned to scientific mode trying to figure out how the mirror works and all that techno stuff. ”
“He does know you’re here now?”
“Of course. No way I miss the big reunion. Even Andrew gets that.” She said as she followed JD down the steps. “Now that we know about the seven day time limit, he’s been giving me a little more breathing space.”
“I have to admit, I’d really miss you, if you lost mirror privileges.”
“Aw, JD that is so sweet, but I’m still you’re cousin,” she teased.
JD glared at her mumbling, “That’s what I get for trying to say something nice.”
They circled around the back yard, avoiding the rest of the Winchester clan inside the house, and stationed themselves on the front porch steps to await Chloe’s arrival.
**********************************************
Dean stepped out onto the front porch to see JD and Holly deep in conversation. She was back again. Chloe’s daughter - hell his daughter, sort of.
“No more home invasions I hope,” Dean quipped, startling the teens as he settled on the step next to them.
“Nope, all quiet on the home front.” Holly said.
“So, this is just a social call?” Dean asked.
She smiled at him and Dean blinked as he recognized how familiar it was. Even after all this time he could still remember what Chloe’s smile looked like and it was disconcerting and yet oddly comforting to see it on Holly’s face.
“Yep, just getting to know my cousin,” she said. “That’s ok, right? I mean, you aren’t going to send me back?”
He knew he should demand that she return but he suspected that JD was just as curious about the alternate Winchesters as he was. Holly’s first appearance had forced him to take a hard look at some of the choices he’d made; specifically, the stupidity of never calling Chloe, not even once, after she left. He supposed that’s why he let JD keep the mirror. Someday he might like to talk to another version of himself; ask him about Chloe. Most likely alternate Dean would tell him he’d been an idiot which was what he’d been telling himself lately. So really, no help there.
“That depends. Your dad know you’re here?”
“My brother does.”
Dean nodded. That was good enough he supposed. “Any big plans or are you just gonna sit here all day?”
“No, nothing planned at all. Nothing at all. Just gonna sit here and chat because we have nothing planned.”
Holly elbowed him in the ribs. “Shut up, JD.” She hissed exasperatedly.
Dean chuckled. JD was usually a pretty good liar but something had him overly excited; the kid was practically churning with nervous energy. “Okaaay, but whatever it is, leave me out of it.”
The sound of JD’s Impala pulling up to the curb caught their attention. It seemed that JD didn’t have a problem loaning out his car to Richie, not that he did either. Dean just enjoyed making Richie beg for the keys.
“Actually, Uncle Dean, today is all about you,” JD said.
The kid had the biggest grin on his face, Holly did too as they watched Richie get out of the car and head their way.
A blond woman got out of the passenger seat. When she turned to face the house, Dean felt as if he couldn’t breathe. Slowly, he stood up and blinked, trying to clear his vision as he stared at the woman, wondering if he was imagining her presence.
He looked over at the teens who were still smiling. “You two both knew about this,” Dean accused, his voice rough as he tried to swallow his panic. “And you,” he looked at Richie as he came to stand with them on the porch. "This your idea?"
“Don’t be mad at Uncle Richie, it was our idea,” JD said, pointing between himself and Holly. “We went to see her and asked her to visit.”
He swung his gaze back to Chloe. She was standing on the curb by the car, as paralyzed as him by the thought of seeing each other after twenty years. But she also looked good, damn good. Exactly as he remembered her.
“You asked her to come?” Dean kept his gaze locked on Chloe.
“Yeah, we did,” JD said.
“You just asked her and she came?” Dean repeated as he broke eye contact to look at his nephew.
Confusion was clear on JD and Holly’s faces. “Holly and I went to Kansas to talk to her." JD was speaking very slowly as if Dean had lost the capacity to understand English which on some level he felt he had.
"We asked her if she’d come see you again. She agreed and now here she is.” JD gestured toward Chloe as he finished.
“Are you mad at us?” Holly asked.
Dean ignored the question as he shook his head, chuckling ruefully to himself. “They just asked her. That was all it took,” he mumbled. He had wasted all this time because he had assumed she didn’t want to see him again. He’d been unwilling to beg her to come back and yet how hard would it have been to pick up the phone for a simple conversation. “I’m an idiot.”
“That’s what Richie kept saying,” Holly said. “And truthfully, I agree.”
“You two,” he pointed a finger at them and they stiffened a bit. “You done good.” He smiled as he ruffled JD’s hair and stepped off the porch, imagining the stunned looks that followed in his wake as he went to meet Chloe.
She was still standing on the curb. Dean strode up to her and gazed into her eyes. “I’m really glad you came.” He hoped she could tell how much he'd missed her from that simple statement
Then she smiled and he felt his world light up. “Me too.”
That was all the encouragement he needed. He wasn’t wasting any more time. Dean reached for her and she came willingly into his embrace as his mouth capture hers in a kiss. Her hands found their way around his neck and it was as if time stood still.
They broke apart but stayed holding each other. Chloe nodded toward the porch where JD and Holly were congratulating themselves.
“It seems our daughter is a bit of a matchmaker,” she teased.
“She and JD are a dangerous combination, lucky for us.” Dean smiled as he leaned down to kiss her again.
