My Wait Here Is Done

The
USS Murgatroid has just arrived, and assumed a standard parking orbit over Vulcan. Captain
KY Jellico had himself beamed directly from his quarters to the surface, to meet with me as I lay recovering from surgery. He informed me that he was retiring, effective immediately, and that I was to assume command of the Murgatroid once I was released from the hospital. He assumed that Starfleet would most likely make my command official and permanent, rather than sending in a replacement, but that he frankly didn't care. His only plan was to find a safe, calm world in the middle of nowhere where he could indulge his passion for greenery (green liquor, green drugs, green women) without fear of attack or shipwide system failures. "It's been real," he concluded, and then left for the local Starfleet offices to sever the last of the red tape.
I was visited by Doctor
Mib Khan next. He told me that, as chief medical officer, he did not yet feel that I was in proper condition to take command of the Murgatroid - however, there was no reason why I could not be transported to the ship's sickbay, and
Evil Storvik sent down here in my place. This would give me some time to get acquainted with my daughter, and also to be briefed on recent events. "Make it so," I said, and we switched beds.
