My Weekend
So, Tuesday I popped online for a little bit, then bummed around and cleaned cages. I was supposed to go look at the place in the afternoon, so I called up JustNate to see if he wanted to come along and then we'd go see CatCF afterward. He was game, so I bundled the dog into the car and headed over. We ran some errands he had to do, and I got in touch with the people who own/run the place and was told after 5pm would be better to come because they had something come up at the last minute and had to be gone. So we ran a few more errands, and had lunch, and got Llorona a vanilla ice cream cone from Foster's Freeze. And, as per her usual, she didn't spill a drop. LOL Silly puppy. Then we stopped by the drugstore for a couple things before heading up. It was about 3:40ish, getting close to 4pm, and the drive was going to be a little over an hour, which would put us there on-schedule.
Except when we get into the car, the car won't start. At all. Dead battery. We had to call my dad, and then my dad's friend Bob who I got the car from. We had to jumpstart it, then followed Bob to his house because he wanted to clean the battery and recharge it. So we sat around there FOREVER! He thinks it's the alternator, and gave me a second one to take to Kragen's to make sure it worked, and if it did, he'd put it in. Which I of course, did not have time to do, and wouldn't until Thursday morning. But he said the battery was recharged, and it had run for a while without dying before, so it was assumed it wouldn't be an issue before I could get there... It was after 7pm before we finally had the car running and could be on our way. Add in the hour's drive, and a minor bout of getting lost via turning the wrong way on a street, and it was just after 9pm before we got there. Not a great first impression. *sigh*
But we spent another hour chatting with the guy, and playing with a couple of the dogs, and he seemed to still want me there, so we had to make arrangements for me to come back up again and actually see the inside of the place. (Some of the dogs were already asleep, but we got a tour of the outside property and garage.) So, still hopeful. This could work out.
Wednesday I was supposed to drive down to Pasadena to pick up the two dwarf ratties that OFR had sent for me. On the way, a gal in Fresno offered to take in one of my rats that needed placing, and wanted me to drive a couple hamsters down with me because they were going to homes in the general area. I talked to Maggie when I got up, and she volunteered to come along because she wanted to have a chat with me anyway. So, I do my running around early, but in the shuffle, I came out from Mildee's work (had to return some keys to her) and went to start my car, and guess what? My car won't start. Again. Irk.
Fortunately, Maggie is a life-saver, and offered to drive. Yep, I so owe her big-time. :p So after she got lost a couple times trying to find the shopping center I was at, we take her car and head out. Late. Are we sensing a theme here? o_O
Anyhoo, we grab some food on the way down, and we actually made pretty good time. The rat was dropped off, the hamster (one of the two gals had backed out, so only one was going) picked up, and off we went again. Picked up the dwarves (they are so friggin' CUTE!), then a little further south and the hamster was at its new home as well. And we got to do the long drive back. But because we'd left later in the day than we'd wanted to, driving back basically consisted of driving overnight. We switched off driving and napping, and got back to my car sometime around 10-10:30ish in the morning. We jumpstarted it, found the closest Kragen, and had them test the alternator. It's good. So I called my dad's friend Bob, and he said to come by after work and he'd switch them out and see if that fixes the problem. Then I headed in to work, even if I was a little early, and got to work on shifting more of the knives and stuff in the cases. I think it's starting to come along nicely. I have to finish that, and reorg the VER wall tomorrow so I can hang up the upgrade parts that came the other day. So I'll actually be doing stuff tomorrow.
Sposed to have brunch with ein_reincarnate and his mom tomorrow before work, too. And abditus wants to hang out after work on Saturday. I think there's something going on Sunday, but I can't think of what it is yet. I'll have to check my planner and see if it's written there...
