Life continues apace, more or less.
I discovered that, contrary to popular (Floridian) wisdom, driving in snow is not like driving in the rain. Driving in snow is akin to driving in thick mud; when you're not in the ruts left by other cars, you find yourself dealing alternately with rock-like chunks of ice and more fluid slush. But now that everything between here and Maine is getting buried, we're just getting light rain. So it all works out. Or something.
The local game store has proven to be less than ideal, in that folks appear academically interested in Warmachine and Hordes, and will grudgingly admit 4th edition isn't that bad, but they've no interest in playing either. At this point I'm about ready to play anything, but due to rugs being pulled at inopportune times, the store will be closing for roughly two weeks or so while the owner looks for a new retail space to lease/rent.
As might be realized from the fact I'm posting at 4 in the morning, my sleep patterns have gotten a bit erratic. Every now and then I lay down and realize I'm not going to fall asleep. This is typically indicated by the fact that instead of dropping off into sleep, I find myself itching all over. Not all at once, just here, then a minute later, there, and so on. So I get up and stay up and then end up napping later, but remain foggy all day. Guess if it's going to happen, the weekend's the best time for it.
The job search continues, without any sort of response. I now have my resume with three different recruitment agencies, none of which are responding to me. That's a great feeling. I've also submitted it to a number of businesses.
Big concern right now is my car. My license expires the 18th, and as a NC resident, I have to get an NC one. That requires a test- but more importantly, it also requires up to 20 days for them to mail the license to me. I get a temporary one until then. However, I also have to get a new tag, which can't be done with the temporary license. I have to wait for the permanent one. This will also require an inspection, and in-state car insurance. So I've had to jump through hoops to get the insurance moved to a local agent (this was mostly a matter of getting people to talk to each other), and Monday I'll hit the DMV, and hope that by the time March comes along and my tag expires, I'll have a replacement. Otherwise life will get interesting. Especially if I'm employed by that point, as I'll be driving to and from work with out of state, expired plates. Whee.
I'm hoping that within the next couple weekends I'll be able to get some more furniture in here. And more cookware. I'm having fun with cooking, discovering things like the fact the fire alarm works, and forgetting to remove plastic wrap from food before putting it in a 400ºF oven for 40 minutes creates smoke. You'd think I'd notice these things. In any case, I could use some more pots and pans. So I'd like to do that. Having a place to put my stuff besides in piles on the floor and any available flat surface would also be nice. We'll see.
Oh yes, I've also realized that any time my sister learns of some misfortune on my part, her response is gleeful taunting. And she wonders why we've never really gotten along.
