Date: November 27, 2004
Character(s): Theo
Location: The ruins of the Nott-family mansion, London
Status: Private
Summary: Theo tends to some business
Completion: Complete

The land lay barren before him, the only sign of the park that had once been, a couple of burned down trees on a far side hill. The earth was black as far as the eye could see. Hills and valleys which had once been green and lush were dead. The creak where his grandfather had taught him to swim dried out.

Theo clenched his jaw in anger, trying to push the memories away as the hatred for his father filled him. He didn't even notice his hands fisting at his sides as he walked on, knowing he had a job to do. A job which couldn't be held up any longer.

It was the first time he'd been back since the attack, the first time he actually saw the result of his fathers idiocy. If the man hadn't been dead already- Theo pushed the thought away.

He halted his steps as he saw the first stone then bent down and looked at it. It was damaged, but useable. He looked at another one, this one even better. The next one was cracked in half, as was the one after that. Theo swallowed, but kept going, turning the stones with the help of his wand, removing pieces of burnt wood and broken skeleton as he went along. He didn't stop until he stumbled onto something else.

It was a skull, but not of a human being, but that of a house elf.

Theo crouched down and stared at the skull for several minutes, the memory of the house elf he knew better than his parents rushing over him.

Young Master Theo shouldn't be sad of not having a dog. Me be Master's doggy. Se me is barking - woof.

It was strange, from the disappointment of his fifth birthday, he'd never thought of her as anything else. She'd just been Doggy - and now he realised he didn't even remember her name. He couldn't ever remember anyone using it.

He frowned and got up, leaving the skull where he'd found it as he moved on, scowling at himself. He needed a new house elf, he decided. Fast. He needed to replace Do - the one he'd had.

Walking briskly, Theo headed over to a wing of the house which was still standing somewhat. It was damaged heavily, but fewer stones were damaged beyond use, and most were intact. The blow had obviously not been as strong here.

Glancing over the scene again, Theo did a quick estimate of how much of the stones he would be able to reuse, and how much he would have to order. Content, he Apparated directly to the narrow alley a block away from the architect he'd hired just before moving to Stoats. He would have preferred a wizard to a Muggle, but with things being what they were, he had to settle for now. He could always try to find a wizarding carpenter to rework the plans after location and magical needs later.

For now, however, Theo needed to get the plans for the new mansion off the architect, and then obliviate the man of their excistence.
