ootds: same wardrobe different setting

my favouriteoriginalenid made it for me. now almost all my icons are pedantic!in-jokes! hooray!

so i moved to vancouver for my MA program. when i lived in the prairies where it really gets down to whimsical children's book temperatures, i thought it was cute when people said vancouver felt really cold in the fall/winter. i couldn't imagine why anyone would need a parka. now that i live here, i realize that 10 degrees celsius here is very different (read: wetter) than 10 degrees in the prairies (where i will go bare legged). it *actually* is kinda cold because you're never quite dry.

on the plus side, this still feels like fall cold vs winter cold which means i get to wear the fall coats i've accumulated (lots of people are in winter coats already!).

occasionally i treat flickr like a blog and write mini posts on my photos. this outfit came from a lot of sources which made me ponder the anxiety of influence and question whether people forget/omit crediting influences/sources--in fashion, art, and writing-- because we absorb them unconsciously or because we are so I-obsessed that acknowledging/entertaining collaboration is akin to being assimilated by the Borg. thoughts?

fatshion influences for this outfit include: gabi from young, fat & fabulous who rocks a lot of mini skirts, bomber jackets and luxurious black; coco73, who has amazing purple suede boots & who gave me the idea to pair tunic length shirts with shorter skirts; teanut, who is the president of the republic of animal prints, and last but not least my hair stylist Kimmie, who first introduced me to the high pompadour when she started rocking them back in 2002. (other inspirational pompadour-sporting superstars include: ninthscompanion, bias_cut, morrissey, leslie hall).
