fattie bringdown

so i just received an email from my university inviting all students to take place at a special Dress for Success event at Club Monaco. There will be champy, a wardrobe demo, and a 30% shopping discount for all those who attend. sounds great, doesn't it? too bad there's nothing at Club Monaco up to the task of clothing my glorious ass. of course all my classmates are stoked and i've been getting their excited replies/pre-event plans in my inbox all evening.

I debated hitting reply all, and I may yet because i think it's important for my colleagues to consider how it might make me--and other fatties-- bristle when they e-vite me out shopping at places where I have no chance in hell at having anything fit me but earrings, but i'm holding off for the moment because the individual conversations i've had with some of the most (unintentionally) sizeist people have actually been productive. So for the time being, I've sent the following email to career services:

Dear [My University's] Career Services:

I am writing to express my disappointment that the Annual Dress for Success Event isn't happening at a retailer with a greater range of size options. I realize it's not deliberate, but I am a {my university] student and this event is, in fact, not really open to me. It excludes me, and anyone else that doesn't fit into the narrow size range of Club Monaco. And that's a bummer because students who cannot shop at Club Monaco--for reasons of size, and also capital-- have the need and would appreciate the opportunity to build a business wardrobe at a 30% off discount while enjoying some free champagne. I believe this is a first-time event, and I hope you will take into consideration offering the event at a retailer with more size options in the future.

Thanks,
