Black Friday and folks full of turkey and waiting in line to snaga deal in one of the most diabloical days created by our consumerism while our soldiers and people overseas continue to die for our limited so-called freedom ( Read more... )

I had honestly forgotten all about Black Friday. Ever since I moved to this small town I never got stressed around the holidays. It's much more family oriented here instead of consumer based. I really hope this whole things with war is done with soon. I will always support the troops, but I really don't want to have to see my dad go off again, or any more of my friends.

I am so pissed off at my state right now also.

Totally understandable dear.
May your father be kept from harms way as much as possible.
Glad you live in a town that does not overkill with consumerism holidays.
We are now making all our major gifts from now as that is for real and takes time and effort to do besides buying a small thing or two from now on.
Amazing yeah?
How liberal so called openminded California actually stuck it to our Gay brothers & sisters like that and No, no one can say it was just the Right wing conservatives over there that did it all alone.
I have found that usually when sombody shouts how openminded they are in public, it is really no secret how just really closeminded they turn out to be.
Too many people just did not stand up when they should have.
oh well, at least the east coast is standing up!
:)

I try to make all my gifts, though I have so many people I want to give gifts to I usually don't finish them. Even my wedding is completely DIY, I hate how much people think you need to spend to get married.

I know up here even though it's very nice to celebrate holidays without the consumerism it's very very closed minded as well. There where so many people who are completely for the whole 'protecting marriage' thing. It's so stupid when religion dictates what our government does.

totally cool,
Keep in mind that I am still am realistic by not hypoctitaclly addmitting the fact that I too like good deals on stuff and do appreciate stuff bought for me.
It's just I want to rely more on making cool stuff that is more personal for folks and likewise receive things that way as well from those I love out there.
I want to stand up and not be a member of a silent majority any more.
I want to stand up and fight (Non Violently of course, and very legally!) for what is right.
I no longer want to wish I did somthing when I can do something.
No more...
We have only ourselves to blame if we let the world go to pot.
You will be fine hun!
Wish you all the best for the holidays and your wedding sometime soon!
:)

Amen brother. You know, I love to buy stuff but I just can't bring myself to do it anymore. Family asks me what I want and I'm like...well...I have everything I need. I guess I could use the Black & Decker AccuMark... They ask if I need socks and undies...well I have some. They're old, but they still do the job. I'm tired of owning things. I'm trying to get rid of stuff that still works so I don't want to throw it away, find someone who could need it ( ... )

Amen Labrynthos.

Gifts are fine, stor boughjt stuff supports the economy and jobs too but yeah i was just so miffed that folks will wait in lone for hoursand kill and main each other for shit they rally don't need, but have no time for volunteering or helping their fellow man.
You are right. we amass too much stuff...that is why we gave most of our surplus away to folks who could use it, or appreciate it.
