My notes from this science lecture are a mess, but I figure I might as well make them public in case anyone wants to look. Maybe I'll clean them up to be readable some day, but given that I haven't done that for all of my 2012 science lectures, I may never get around to it.

There were four science lectures scheduled for today. I attended three.
The 8:30 am lecture was by Chris Benton (M.B.Ch.B., whatever those initials stand for) titled " The hazards of the space flight to Mars". I took lots of notes, but they're not really in a readable state, so the link will show a permission error until (if) I clean it up for ( Read more... )

Dr Schwieterman presented lots of information about Earth as viewed from space. He had great graphics in his presentation, but I had some after lunch drowsiness, so I was too tired to take any notes. I pretty much just sat back and enjoyed the show.
Afterthought: I should look him up when I get home to see whether he has a similar lecture ( Read more... )

This afternoon, T had his usual Sunday appointment. On the way home, we listened to more of the five-CD BBC radio drama version of The Hobbit that we started yesterday. We listened to tracks five through nine of the first disc, stopping right after the trolls.

A reminiscence on the New Year's Eve of 23 years ago:
As a software person, I look back at the 1999 to 2000 transition as a huge success story. Today, "J" and I spent a lot of time working on school paperwork for "T". We should have done it sooner, but better late than never.

I did a lot of writing today on my current writing project. I'm not sure how good, but I managed to crank out quite a lot of it.
In the evening, I watched a Nova episode about the Joint Strike Fighter competition with "J" and "T". It was interesting stuff for all of us.

Since this is a day off, I decided to make waffles. Because toasted leftover waffles are almost as good as fresh cooked waffles, I started on a double recipe. I soon encountered complications.
