The point of this post is....pictures! This past weekend my friend Nate asked my friend Meredith and I to model for him.
Nate actually hadn't heard of Steampunk, so of course I had to educate him on the subject...and he was excited to do a steampunk-themed shoot. So I dressed myself and Meredith in various things accosted from our respective closets, which I think turned out pretty well considering there was zero planning beforehand. XD
The location is an abandoned industrial site in Rochester. The three of us are big into
urban exploration, and after having explored this site on Friday we thought it would be a great place for Sunday's steampunk shoot. The first building with all of the pipes and beams was once a power station, with two huge boilers. Unfortunately it's currently in the process of being demolished. =( We also went up to the roof of an adjacent building which is the former site of a company called Sykes Datatronics. They made computer equipment and from what we can tell, closed down in the early nineties (We found an issue of Mac User and newspapers from '91). The inside of the building was intriguing in that it was full of old dinosaur computer parts, but not really relevant to steampunk interests...the roof, however, is a different story. It has neat brick structures, staircases, rooms full of old elevator equipment, and a fantastic view of Rochester from seven stories up.
Anyway, enough of my rambling, on to the photos!
The photographer for all of these is the fantastic
Nate Lowndes.
Editing was done by me. i had a little too much fun with photoshop on some of them. DX
For those of you who dont know me from elsewhere, I'm the one with the short red hair and the corset, and Meredith (Who is tragically lj-less) is the pretty one. =P
Okay, I lied when I said *all* of the pictures were by Nate. i actually took this one of Meredith. He was standing behind her, but I had a really good angle so I made him give the camera too me and took this XD.
This is my "grrrr" face.
I know this picture is huge, but I love it so much I couldn't stand to make it smaller. XD Sorry folks.
Hey look, a big chain!
What happens if we pull on it...
(nothing happened btw, except a lot of rust-dust flaked off. XD)
Hey look, a hole! Let's poke it with some rebar!
This picture is my current desktop.
This is us thinking "yeah, we can climb this thing..."
And so we did!
we pwned this pile of rubble. (Seriously, try climbing that in a skirt).
This is my Superhero Pose.
Say what? Hahaha, I look so incredulous.
Awwww, luv! I love this picture, it's so painfully adorable.
We be lurking...
So cute! <3
I can't decide if I love or hate this picture. On one hand, it's a really cool angle...on the other, my hair is like FWOOSH and just looks silly.
Okay, interesting anecdote time.See that thing Meredith is checking out? It's the giant spool that used to hold the cable for the elevator. it's supposed to sit right in that little dock thing, but if you'll notice, it definitely isn't. That spool probably weighs about 2000 pounds, so the only explanation as far as we can figure is that at one point the elevator actually fell, and when it hit the ground the recoil was enough to bounce that thing out of its housing. Scary, no? I can only hope the crash happened AFTER the building was abandoned.
we now return you to your regularly scheduled photo post.
Check out her eye in this one. O.o
I'm all like "y halo thar"
Hooray for cool vinage-y effects done in Photoshop! XD
Meredith and Erin, protecting Rochester from the forces of Un-Awesomeness.
Edited version of the previous pic. I liked them both, so you get them both. Nyaaaaah.
I told Nate to take a closeup shot of my bolt earring because I love it. XD
And we'll end with my favorite pic of Meredith. <33 Isn't she pretty?
Thanks for looking and I hope you like the pics!
