Greetings... and request for advice?

Hoy~

I'm a long time watcher, once in a while commenter, and finally joined the community properly in hopes of advice.

I have been wanting to learn to sew for a while now.  I have basic knowledge and am able to hem simple items, add lace, repair buttons, and whatnot.  However I want to learn to use patterns.  The first project that I wanted to try was to be a simple one.  A cravat.

Yet I cannot find any patterns for cravats!  I have looked online a while back with the best thing I could find being this: http://www.regencyreproductions.com/history.htm

FREE CRAVAT PATTERN

Cut 1.5 yards white linen. Keep the selvage edge smooth.
Fold in half lengthwise.
Measure 10 inches on the fold and cut. This will give you an isosceles triangle, 55" x 10".
Hand sew a narrow hem on the slanted edges - the selvage edge is already finished.
Spray starch and iron.

But it came with no images, which honestly makes me a bit nervous.

And while this one has plenty of lovely pictures.... it requires you to already have ties on hand!

It just seems that so far many of the free patterns floating around require a membership with the website where it is posted (which makes me wary) or the ones for purchase I have not been able to locate with good reviews.  Perhaps someone in the community can point me out to one that goes from raw materials to cravat with a pattern image to follow?
