Once again, I'm hosting another Steampunk Fashion panel, this time at Metrocon [Yay, it's confirmed!]! Happily, Metro is appropriately themed this year, and Abney Park is scheduled to perform on Saturday night!
If you are interested in modeling, please let me know! You will wear your own outfit and should be able to say a couple things about where you got it or anything else Steampunk-related you'd like to talk about. Right now I am FULL UP on Steampunk Lolita, but you're still welcome to model anyway! I'm really looking for more Neo-Victorian or straight Steampunk models right now.
I'm waiting to hear back from the Ancient City Steampunks to see if we can have a tech side to the panel as well. I'm also waiting to hear back from AP to see what time their concert is scheduled for.
I definitely learned a lot last year and won't make the same mistakes again. It'll be much easier now that I've done one before.
Things I know I need to cut out of the panel:
My own forgetfulness. Necro was on forgetfulness disaster after another. This year there will be no screwups! Hey, at least I know where I'm going this time XD
Relating Steampunk to modern fashion styles/trends. That just ended up being lame and no one there was interested in mainstream fashion. I had thought it would be a really interesting and unique addition, but I was wrong and it wasted time.
Less focus on Steampunk culture, history, media, and non-fashion-related things.
Things I know I need to add to the panel:
Guy stuff! There are usually more girls at Metrocon, but at Necro there were a lot of inquisitive guys and I didn't have enough experience/preparation for their half of the fashion to answer questions properly. This year I'm happy to have a balance of guy and girl models [so far], so that will help a lot.
Plus-sized Steampunk. Again, lack of experience/prep. Got stumped by one or two related questions last year and I don't want that to happen again.
More of a focus on tutorials, where to get clothing, etc.
Taking the Heat - How to Deal w/ 90*+ weather in Steampunk
Any and all feedback from people who attended my panel at Necro is extremely appreciated. Good, great, bad, ugly, weird, whatever!
Also, there are a handful of people whom I owe dinner, and you know who you are. Let me know : ) I invited the Ophelia crew out but understandably haven't heard back from them, but I would hope that you'd like to take me up on the offer if said arrangement pans out XD
