Central Florida and visiting Steampunks - call to arms

Feb 11, 2009 16:47

Once again, I'm hosting another Steampunk Fashion panel, this time at Metrocon [Yay, it's confirmed!]! Happily, Metro is appropriately themed this year, and Abney Park is scheduled to perform on Saturday night!

I'm looking for feedback from those who went to Necronomicon 2008, models for non-Lolita Steampunk, and I'd just like to know who are or aren't attending XD )

Awesome! Good luck with everything. (: And congrats on getting the panel confirmed~ I'm -hoping- to go to Metrocon this year (for the first time), but nothing's confirmed as of yet. I'll definitely look out for your panel if I do go. (: I just wanted to comment because I haven't seen/met too many Florida steampunk fans. (: Good luck with everything~!

Florida is just a tad hot/steamy to make steampunk fashion a comfortable option.

Who knows, maybe the Con will change that.

Thanks for reminding me! I have to add a part that dispels the "Florida is too hot for this crap!" myth. Great excuse to show lots of lovely Burning Man photos, if you ask me. XD

Well, I've lived in Tampa for 15 years and it's a bit humid for heavy clothing much of the time so it's probably not the first thing people think of wearing around here. It really just depends on the fabrics used and the styles used and the time of year. Right now is perfect. You'd have to think Vicky-era tropical and/or rely on air conditioning.

Metrocon? I missed Necro this past year but I've not heard anything about Metrocon.... Is this some revamp of Mega?

Huh? Metrocon is one of the biggest such conventions in Florida, so I'm not sure what you mean, it's not really a "revamp" of anything. ?

Re: We're hoping to be performing if you need us... sugarblue_sunny February 12 2009, 15:19:41 UTC
When are you performing? Is it at (or nearby) the convention?
Your outfits are amazing, I would love it if you would show some of them off and talk a bit about making them, etc. That would be wonderful! You could promo yourselves all you want XD

Also, I hope you don't mind that I peeked in your profile, but holy cow you lived in Ooltewah! My dad and brothers live there, and my brothers/cousins go to UTC and CSTCC. I'm surprised to see anyone else who's even heard of it XD.

The Con itself is themed Sci-Fi vs. Fantasy, but the Fantasy Masquerade's theme is Steampunk, and that kind of leaks into the rest of the con.

I hope to have something that vaguely resembles Steampunk done for the con.

I know a few of us from the Cowford Steampunk Society (Jacksonville) are intending to be @ MetroCon. Some of my pals from Gainesville are considering it as well. Looking forward to your panel!
