The Mad Scientist/Doktor Maxamillian Von Crankenshaft

Here are some photos of my Steampunk Mad Scientist/Doktor outfit that I made for Salon Con this weekend. The first batch of photos were taken at home to give a better view of the objects. The second batch are from madamekat taken at Salon Con.

For the costume I decided to be anti brown. I went with the stereotypical mad scientist look with a white coat and black buttons. I bought a sous chef coat and tailored it to fit. The boots are tall plain black boots and I have on simple black dress pants. The rubber gloves are from Home depot. I made a wire head piece because I did not want to have the stereotype of goggles. I also knew everyone else would be wearing them and wanted to stand out a bit. I cannot solder or weld so I went with wire wrapping as that falls within my talent range. I chose an art nouveau style for the glasses to fit the time period. The color contact and eye make-up was to make it a little "mad".

The heart is to bridge the "Man is machine" concept to bring about the new Victorian age of science with medical advancements and Steampunk technology. A mechanical heart is not a far fetched idea. ^_^ I used a prop heart with watch parts, pluming parts, some sculpting clay and paint.

Instead of wearing all my tools I made a case for them and put them in the bag. I had them on display for the Steampunk meet up. For the costume contest I mearly pulled them from my doctor bag. The bag was a vintage find many years ago at a flea market. The tools are real medical bone saws, scalpels, dental tools, watch screwdrivers and plastic kids mechanic tools painted to look metal and covered with aged paint and made to look a bit bloody. (I do horror photography so this was all stuff I already had). I hope to have a display case for the heart for the home stead soon.

I am also posting some of my other more Vicky (Victorian) outfits. I made and sewed all my own vests. The monocle I made and the cravat pins I made as well. I will post about making a proper monocle with a bridge so it can be worn and not fall off your face. The mourning coat, hickory striped pants, top hat and sous chef coat were gotten for a very reasonable price for a great company called http://www.uniformalwearhouse.com/ They are the best and least expensive place for formal wear that I have found. Plus they have the best quality and inexpensive hats I can find anywhere. I suggest ordering over the phone as I have had problems ordering online.

Now onward to the pictures!!!!!!!!
