Jess had lost her house keys. As she rummaged in her handbag Becker squeezed her shoulder comfortingly.
“Not so efficient now,” he teased. “Stay here, there’s a box of tools in my car. I’ll only be a couple of minutes.” He gave her shoulder another squeeze and dropped a kiss on her hair.
Jess watched him go with a mixture of irritation and admiration. Becker really did love saving people. She fingered the hairgrip she had retrieved from her bag. It was cold out here. If she hurried she could probably grab a sweater from inside before he got back.
