Clara finished speaking and waited. Nothing happened. The instructions had seemed clear but maybe she’d misunderstood. She reread the page and catalogued the herbs and flowers now strewn carelessly beside her bowl. All were correct. Then it must be the incantation. Somehow she must have spoken too quickly or mumbled the words.
She began again. This time as she spoke the air above her crackled and a sphere of light began to form.
She had done it! For a moment Clara was overwhelmed by the success of her summoning. Then she grinned triumphantly. Her future was waiting to be revealed.
