Generally speaking, puns don't get no respect; many people seem to consider puns a very low -- or juvenile -- form of humor. But I enjoy a good pun. Partly, it seems to one of the few forms of humor that don't "pick on" somebody -- blondes, Aggies, various ethnicities. I'm writing summer-practice tips for some of my students. Spent an hour explaining in careful detail, and using Google to translate into Spanish for a Spanish-speaking mother. Not that I have anything against Mexican food per se; I just can't handle food that is "too spicy". Problem is, my perception of "too spicy" is barely noticeable by the average Anglo, and is hopelessly bland according to those who enjoy actual Mexican or Tex-Mex food. I have a method for making passwords -- think up a mnemonic sentence first, then use the first letter of each word of that sentence. So my school password is Linda's (object) is (place) at (location) + number. That would be Loipal42 -- with different words and number, of course. But I figure it makes a pretty good string of "random" letters ( Read more... )
