learning Hare Hare Yukai whoo!
Saturday night was Nicky's Lola (grandmother)'s seventieth birthday party. Loads of performances, including the debut performance of my band, One Third Left! We performed a medley/mashup of You Raise Me Up and Wind Beneath My Wings with sop/alto, keys, three guitars, ukulele, and violin. I screwed up many chords but I'm feeling really good about our performance! Footage is coming.
And then yesterday Kyra, one of our guitarists, entered the North City Shooting Star Talent Search for the first time and all of us from One Third Left went along to support. Singing and guitaring (yes I know that's not a real verb) Taylor Swift's Crazier, she coped admirably with the mic stand constantly dipping and got into the next round! Hurrah! I am so proud of her. ♥
Having entered that thing myself several (okay maybe three) times, it was really weird being in the audience instead of onstage, heh. I was still getting nervous for Kyra! The other act that got in was a solo interpretative/contemporary dance to Avril Lavigne that could have been to any other song, really, but her costume was cool, and I was easily impressed by her actually using the round part of the stage; most dancers don't. Someone swine flued I mean bailed out of the round, so the other acts in the round were a couple of young guys who thought they were the next Flight of the Conchords, billing themselves as musical comedy, but were really just incomprehensible and sang something about the fist of the devil and Satan stealing their motorbike (I think), and a little girl who sang My Favorite Things from The Sound of Music, flat. Not a lot of stage presence in this group. It was a very young group, for that matter.
