Sigh

My dress turned out to be a bit of a disaster, so I scrapped it. I made a boo boo while cutting the circle skirt using the good fabric. I was only supposed to have two pieces, yet I ended up with three. I tried to save the skirt by stitching three panels together, but it resulted in the skirt being too small in the waist.

I was frustrated. I worked so hard on my dress and my first sewing project ended in disaster. But after sulking for a short while, I realized that everyone makes mistakes when they're first learning to sew. And even the pros make mistakes after many, many years of sewing. So, I decided it was best to move on because......

I'm making a costume! Meg's masquerade costume from The Phantom of the Opera stage show. Mine will be a hybrid of the US tour and Las Vegas versions. I even found gorgeous brocade fabric.

It reminds me a lot of the German version, showing here:

I made a mockup of the apron and tails, which turned out pretty well. I used Truly Victorian's 1870's tie apron overskirt. I had to hem it quite a bit, but that's the only change I made to it.

I don't have the pattern for the jacket yet. It's been delayed due to the weather. But when I get it, I'll start working on a mockup. The final garment will be lined, interfaced, and will have crinoline sewed on the inside to make the back and the sides of the jacket poofy like the stage version.

And I learned my lesson and bought double the amount of fabric I need, just in case. I think I can do this, provided I go slowly and take my time.

In other news, I've been more tired that usual, and yesterday I went to the studio thinking I had a music lesson, but I didn't. Last week, I was supposed to have two lessons but I was sick for like, five days so I missed my Thursday lesson. As a result, I forgot that I wasn't supposed to go this week. Thankfully, it's only a half mile away from my house. I walked two blocks down from the studio to the supermarket and bought a couple of things.

Tomorrow, I'm going to Whole Foods and I am pretty excited about that. I love the cold bar! I always get cucumbers with shredded cheddar cheese, black sesame seeds, nutritional yeast, and sometimes parmesean if they have it. It's delish to me. I'll get other stuff too, but that's what I'm looking forward to the most.

Last weekend, I went to the pet store and bought the rabbits a willow bark tunnel. Penny loves it. The only downside is that the willow bark is a little messy when chewed and leaves little bits on the carpet. It's easy enough to clean up, though.
Here she is enjoying her toy:
