So, as some of you know, I recently caught up on The Big Bang Theory, and I've fallen a little bit in love with it. And more specifically with Sheldon and Penny.
Since Sheldon/Penny are my new obsession, this picspam is sort of an outlet for that. It started out as a "favorite scenes" picspam, but then kind of evolved into most of their scenes in general. haha, I went insanely overboard with this.
Remember that time ASkars had a sex scene on True Blood? Yea, it's worse than that...
I wanted to focus on Sheldon's character evolution (that happens because of his friendship with Penny) but the whole thing just kind of kept growing. woops.
This is going to take FOREVER to load even on the fastest connection. Sorry guys! I would suggest either going through it slowly or letting it load for a minute or two first, or you'll probably get blank spots where there's meant to be GIFs.
There's even a fanmix at the end (that I'm actually insanely proud of!) that's how crazy I got!
THIS ENTRY TOOK TWO WEEKS TO FINISH! I feel so proud/lame. haha.
I'm a big sucker for stories about emotionally closed people who open up little by little. And this is the perfect example of that.
Sheldon is contentedly stuck in a little box with everything mathematically precise, no feeling...just science. And in some ways it is admirable that he can find such happiness within himself, but that doesn't mean that he should close himself off to everything, every feeling, and everyone in the universe.
He does have friends who tolerate him, and in their own way maybe love him, but it seems like those relationships are more for convenience than anything else. And they seem fine to just let him keep his walls up forever, because they honestly don't seem to care to come that close.
What I love about his friendship/whatever it is with Penny is that she really shakes him up and makes him do things and discover new things about himself. It's kind of amazing to see that amount of character growth in a sitcom.
It kind of reminds me of Kirk and Spock's relationship in a lot of ways. You know, the emotionally closed off logical one, and his fun loving, pretty, popular friend that finally allow hims to open up and realize that there are things in life that science/logic just can't explain. It's a simple story, but always a moving one.
Do I ship them romantically? Two weeks ago when I first finished I would have said, "I'm open to it, but I don't think it's necessary." But now? When at work on Friday I found myself reading S/P fanfic pretty much all day long? ...I'm too far through the looking glass to turn back. I can't help it, I want it. It needs to be built up naturally and organically though. And it definitely shouldn't happen anytime soon. But eventually I think it could be really amazing storyline-wise to see him open up that much and to really let another person in.
SEASON 1
1.01 - Pilot
When Sheldon met Penny...
I think the facial expression in the second cap (and the fact that Leonard made a joke about him masturbating all the time earlier in the episode) shows that originally Sheldon was much more openly sexual than he's written now. LOL which is kind of hilarious upon re-watch.
"So you're, like, one of those Beautiful Mind genius guys."
"Yeah..."
Is he flirting here? lol I don't even know..
1.02 - The Big Bran Hypothesis
"And what kind of doctor removes shoes from asses?"
"Depending on the depth that's either, uh, proctologist or a general surgeon. {Leonard holds up a 'sarcasm' sign.} Oh."
This week's emotional growth lessons: Sarcasm and saying you're sorry!
1.04 - The Luminous Fish Effect
Here they are voluntarily spending time together. And Sheldon actually had fun and wants to do it again!
"Interesting"
"Isn't it?"
"No, I mean what you find enjoyable."
"Okay, no warehouse store, but we're still on for putt-putt golf, right?"
1.07 - The Dumpling Paradox
"Okay, that's it. I don't know how, but she is cheating. No one can be that attractive and this skilled at a video game."
"Anything else I should know?"
"Yes, if you use my toothbrush, I'll jump out that window. Please don't come to my funeral. Have a good night."
"You can't go out, it's Halo night."
"Well, for Penny, it's dancing night"
"You go dancing every Wednesday night?"
"No."
"Then it's not dancing night."
"Look, why don't we play tomorrow?"
"Tonight is Halo night. It's like talking to a wall."
Another step forward: wanting to let her be a part of his weekly routine.
1.08 - The Grasshopper Experiment
"I swear to God, Sheldon, one day I'm going to get the hang of talking to you."
"I don't believe it. What's gotten into him?"
"Oh, maybe a couple of virgin Cuba Libres that turned out to be kind of slutty."
1.09 - The Cooper-Hofstadter Polarization
"How do you feel?"
"I don't understand the question."
This is actually two completely different scenes but, lol it's still cute when you put them next to each other. And she still got the idea to do that from him.
And a
shorter GIF 1.11 - The Pancake Batter Anomaly
"Soft kitty, warm kitty
Little ball of fur
Happy kitty, sleepy kitty
Purr, purr, purr"
Sure, he's a baby when he's sick and he needs someone to take care of him. But for someone who never lets anyone even touch him it still seems like a big deal.
1.14 - The Nerdvana Annihilation
"You hypocrite! Miss "grown-ups don't play with toys!" If I went into your apartment right now, would I not find Beanie Babies? Are you not an acquirer of Care Bears and My Little Ponies? And just who is that Japanese feline on your shorts? Hello, Hello Kitty!
I love that he calls her out on stuff like that.
1.16 - The Peanut Reaction
"Hello, Penny. Leonard just left."
"I know, I wanna talk to you."
"What would we talk about? We have no overlapping interests I'm aware of, and as you know I don't care for chitchat."
"Can you just let me in?"
"Well, all right, but I don't see this as a promising endeavor."
ha, she's cute
TOUCHING
She's sleeping in his spot! Aw, haha how he even allowed that is beyond me.
1.17 - The Tangerine Factor
"Can we talk in my apartment?"
"Eh, why not? We're already through the looking-glass anyway."
SEASON 2
2.01 - The Bad Fish Paradigm
"Sheldon, can I ask you a question?"
"I'd prefer you not, but I won't go so far as to forbid it."
LOL that's as close to smoldering as Sheldon gets
"One more question -- and perhaps I should have led with this -- when did we become friends?"
And
HERE is a GIF of Sheldon making a joke, lolz.
He is voluntarily touching her!
2.02 - The Codpiece Topology
"Because love trumps hate."
"Oh, now you're just making stuff up!"
This has nothing to do with Penny, but awwww, Sheldon!
2.03 - The Barbarian Sublimation
"There, there."
"She is interfering with my sleep, she is interfering with my work, and if I had another significant aspect of my life, I'm sure she'd be interfering with that too!"
I love how he rolls his eyes at her, but smiles
SHELDON SMILES! THE WORLD IS IN SHOCK!
"I told her; I texted her. I sent out a very emphatic Twitter. I even changed my Facebook status to read: 'Sheldon Cooper wishes Penny would leave him alone.'"
"What the frak?"
"It's like some kind of weird comic book cross over."
"Like if The Hulk were dating Peppermint Patty"
"You're in my bedroom. People can't be in my bedroom."

THREE 2.05 - The Euclid Alternative
"Didn't you recently state that you and I are friends?"
"Yes, Sheldon. We are friends."
And as usual she's the one to knock some sense into him.
2.06 - The Cooper-Nowitzki Theorem
2.07 - The Panty Piñata Polarization
"Yeah, no, there's a new policy: No shoes, no shirt, no Sheldon."
"Go ahead. Eat it. I dare you. "
-----
-----
"Woman, you are playing with forces beyond your ken."
"Yeah, well your Ken can kiss my Barbie!"
-----
-----
-----
"When you understand the laws of physics, Penny, anything is possible. And may I add, 'Mwah, ha, ha.'"
-----
-----
"Penny?"
"Yes?"
"Well played."
"Thank you."
"Just remember ... With great power comes great responsibility."
"Understood."
2.09 - The White Asparagus Triangulation
"I'm striking up casual conversation with you. S'up."
"Please don't do that."
"Always nice talking to you, Sheldon."
"Peace out!"
"This is banana bread."
"This is a door knob."
"It's my understanding that an unsolicited gift of food can be a precursor to an impromptu invitation to come in and chat."
"Sheldon, would you like to come in?"
"I suppose I could spare a few minutes."
"Okay, okay. Alright you know what, I'll tell you what happened. We were young, we were very much in love, but we could only communicate through a time-traveling mailbox at my lake house."
"It's not enough that you make me watch that movie, but now you mock me with it?!"
2.10 - The White Asparagus Triangulation
This scene is one of the cutest things I've ever seen.
JUST WATCH IT I love this so much that this GIF is in my userinfo.
2.11 - The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis
"Wait! You bought me a present?"
"Uh-huh."
"Why would you do such a thing?"
Sheldon shopping for Penny and having ice cream is kind of over-the-top adorable.
"Sheldon, I am very, very sorry."
"No, no, I brought this on myself by being such an endearing and important part of your life."
"I possess the DNA of Leonard Nimoy?!"
"Yeah, I guess, but look, he signed it!"
"Do you realize what this means?! All I need is a healthy ovum and I could grow my own Leonard Nimoy!!"
This is one of the greatest moments ever on this show. On any other show it wouldn't be that big of a deal, just generally adorable. But here? With Sheldon? This was such a big step for him.
"Sheldon's hugging me!"
2.13 - The Friendship Algorithm
"...Hello Sheldon."
"Hi!"
------
Aw, for whatever reason Sheldon considers her an important person in his life.
2.14 - The Financial Permeability
------
"I'm sorry, I don't understand what social situation this is. Could you give me some guidance on how to proceed."
------
"Don't be silly."
"I'm never silly."
"Hello, Penny."
"Sheldon, here is your money. Thank you very much. It helped a lot."
"Sarcasm?"
"No."
"Darn! I can't seem to get the hang of that."
2.15 - The Maternal Capacitance
2.16 - The Cushion Saturation
"Boy, I love him, but he is one serious whack-a-doodle."
"Come on, Sheldon, just give it a try."
"Alright"
"There. Nice and comfy-cozy. Zero, zero, zero."
"There's one more zero. You forgot the time parameter."
"Sit on the damn couch!"
2.17 - The Terminator Decoupling
------
"She calls me Moonpie because I am nummy-nummy and she could just eat me up."
The fact that he even told her that at all is amazing. That is practically the most vulnerable thing about him.
2.18 - The Work Song Nanocluster
"Penny has a 'Don't knock on my door before 11am or I punch you in the throat rule.'"
"It's 11am."
"I know, you're safe."
"Penny. I'm a physicist. I have a working knowledge of the entire universe and everything it contains."
"Who's Radiohead?"
"...*twitches*...I have a working knowledge of the important things in the universe."
"Just to be clear here...you're asking for my assistance?"
-----
-----
+
More singing! Ah, Sheldon's face at the end of this!
---------
------
Intentional touching!
"I believe I'm hearing some negativity on factory floor."
"So?"
"Penny, the labor force is a living organism that must be carefully nurtured. Any counterproductive grumbling must be skillfully dealt by management. Observe. (To the others) 'HEY! LESS TALK! MORE WORK!'"
"Nicely done."
"Thank you. You hear any union talk, you let me know."
-------
"Here, this will help."
"Very well, but if this leads to opiates or hallucinogenics, you're going to have to answer to my mother."
2.19 - The Dead Hooker Juxtaposition
"Why are you making it worse?"
"I tried making it better; he wouldn't go for it."
"Sheldon, I'm sure it's going to be fine."
"No, it's not going to be fine. Change is never fine. They say it is, but it's not."
"Did you remember to ask for the chicken with broccoli to be diced, not shredded?"
"Yes."
"Even though the menu description specifies shredded?"
"Yes."
"Brown rice, not white?"
"Yes."
"You stop at the Korean grocery and get the good hot mustard?"
"Yes."
"Did you pick up the low-sodium soy sauce from the market?"
"Yes."
"Good. See how it's done, Leonard?."
2.20 - The Hofstadter Isotope
"Oh, hey guys, where you headed?"
"To the comic book store. You're probably thinking, "the comic book store, on a Thursday? Why I've fallen down the rabbit hole and into a land of madness." What you have failed to take into account, Penny, is that this is 'Anything Can Happen Thursday.'"
2.21 - The Vegas Renormalization
"Hello, neighbor."
"Hello, Sheldon."
"And how are you on this fine evening?"
"Great."
"Good, I'm glad."
"I will be enjoying a blissful evening in my personal Fortress of Solitude."
"That's Superman's big ice thingy, right?"
"You know I'm in such a good mood I'm actually finding your tenuous grasp of the English language folksy and charming today."
"What's wrong, Superman? Locked out of your big ice thingy?"
-------
-------
"Sing 'Soft Kitty.'"
"That's only for when you're sick."
"Homesick is a type of being sick."
"Penny?"
"Yeah?"
"Thanks for letting me stay here."
"Oh, you're welcome sweetie."
"Okay, I'm sleepy now, get out."
Her smile as she's watching him sleep? Awwww. ♥
2.23 - The Monopolar Expedition
*knock* "Penny?"
*knock* "Sheldon?"
*knock* "Penny?"
*knock* "Sheldon?"
*knock* "Penny?!"
*knock* "Sheldon?!"
*knock* "Penny?!!"
*knock* "Sheldon?!"
*knock* "Penny?!!"
*knock* "Sheldon?"
*knock* "Penny?!?!?!"
SEASON 3
3.01 - The Electric Can Opener Fluctuation
----------
----------
I am in love with this small little moment. She goes to touch him, to comfort him, and then realizes...he can't be touched....
3.03 - The Electric Can Opener Fluctuation
"Morning, Sheldon. Come dance with me."
"No."
"Why not."
"Penny, while I subscribe to the many worlds theory which posits the existence of an infinite number of Sheldons in an infinite number of universes, I assure you that in none of them am I dancing."
"Are you fun in any of them?"
"The math would suggest that in a few I'm a clown made of candy. But I don't dance."
CHALLENGE EXTENDED??
------
------
3.07 - The Guitarist Amplification
------
------
3.08 - The Adhesive Duck Deficiency
"Although my research is going well, I do miss the warmth of human companionship....hehehe."
I love that they started the episode with this. That is what this episode is really about...Sheldon and the warmth of human companionship.
--------
"Alright, let it never be said that Sheldon Lee Cooper ignored the pleas of a damsel in distress."
-------
"Is that my arm?"
"It doesn't feel like an arm."
"Then maybe you should let it go."
"Alrighty."
This scene is just so odd. I mean if I was helping a friend get dressed and accidentally grazed her boob we'd probably laugh it off awkwardly and move on. And they definitely could have played it that way and the joke still would have been funny...but they didn't. They had him pause there and then not even move until she told him too. haha. Fascinating...
And then afterward he peeked? I understand being scientifically curious, but I'm pretty sure he's studied basic human anatomy to the point where he would be satisfied in his own knowledge of it.
"Why do you have the Chinese character for 'soup' tattooed on your right buttock?"
"It's not 'soup.' It's 'courage.'"
"No it isn't. But I suppose it does take courage to demonstrate that kind of commitment to soup."
"How'd you see it? You said you wouldn't look."
"Sorry, as I told you: The hero always peeks."
-------
------
------
"Wait! You have to help me get into bed! (Giggles) Sheldon has to get me into bed! Bet you'd never thought I'd say that!"
"Yes. The charm of your drug addled candor knows no bounds."
-------
"You know, people think you're this weird robot man who's so annoying all the time -- and you totally are -- but then it's like that movie WALL-E at the end. You're so full of love and you can save a planet and get fat people out of the floaty chairs.
"That's a fairly labored metaphor, but I appreciate the sentiment behind it."
And I think that sums it up pretty perfectly!
"Sing Soft Kitty to me."
"Soft Kitty is for when you're sick. You're not sick."
"Injured and drugged is a kind of sick."
"I've got all night Sheldon..."
I love how since she's drugged up she completely forgets his 'no touching' thing and just runs her hand all the way down his arm. heh.
He starts out singing and then you can just see the change from "OMG WHY IS THIS HAPPENING" to just this...warmth. I can't even take how amazing it is. And then he ends up singing directly to her.
Her smile there is so just...wow.
♥
3.10 - The Gorilla Experiment
"You see, in the winter that seat is close enough to the radiator so that he's warm, yet not so close that he sweats. In the summer, it's directly in the path of a cross-breeze created by opening windows, there and there. It faces the television at an angle that isn't direct so he can still talk to everybody, yet not so wide that the picture looks distorted."
"There may be hope for you yet."
There's only GIFs for 3.10 since I finished all of this before this episode aired, and I really didn't want to go back and do more. haha, so I just made GIFs.
Other GIFS
(these are other GIFs I made from the show that aren't necessarily Sheldon/Penny related)
:D Sheldon and his creepy smile Sheldon and ANOTHER creepy smile Howard and Raj Sheldon and Christine Baranski rock out Bloopers!
OTHERS:
Jim & Kunal Jim & Johnny (awww! ♥)
Everyone laughing! Fanmix
(LOL like this entry isn't already obscene enough?)
I'm actually really proud of this. I spent waaaay too much time thinking about it, listening to a Sheldon/Penny playlist on my commute to and from work this week, and deciding which songs and in what order would make the best storyline to compliment this show.
These songs are mostly light and innocent (like their relationship kind of is) and all about awakenings and discovering things about yourself. It starts out with Sheldon thinking what he has is "enough" and ends with his "walls" coming down and "finding himself" through his friendship/relationship/whatever with Penny.
"Marina & The Diamonds - I Am Not A Robot" was really the inspiration for me doing this. So if you only dl one song let it be that be it.
o1. Flume - Bon Iver & My Brightest Diamond (Live at Radio City)
I am my mother's only one
It's enough
o2. Hannah - Freelance Whales
Hannah takes the stairs 'cause she can't tell
That it's a winding spiral case
Is she right side up or upside-down?
I've prepared a light show and you could fake a melody
o3.
Strange Overtones - David Byrne & Brian Eno
I wake up every morning
I hear your feet on the stairs
You're in the next apartment
I hear you singing over there
o4.
Funny Little Frog - God Help The Girl
You're my vision in the hall,
You're the one I'm talking to,
When I get in from my work,
You are my guy, and you don't even know it,
I am living out the life of a poet,
I am the jester in the ancient court,
And you're the funny little frog in my doorway.
I don't dare to touch your hand
I don't dare to think of you
In a physical way
o5.
Brainy - The National
You might need me more than you think you will
brainy brainy brainy
o6.
The Calculation - Regina Spektor
So we made our own computer
Out of macaroni pieces
And it did our thinking while we lived our lives
It counted up our feelings
And divided them up even
And it called that calculation perfect love
Didn't even know
That love was bigger
Didn't even know
That love was so, so
o7.
I Am Not A Robot (Unplugged) - Marina & The Diamonds
I'm vulnerable, I'm vulnerable
I am not a robot
You're loveable, so loveable
But you're just troubled
Can you teach me how to feel real?
Can you turn my power on?
Guess what? I am not a robot
o8.
You Can't See The Stars From Here - Oh, Atoms
Instrumental
o9.
From Stardust To Sentience - High Places
Millions of forces of physics and providence
Teamed up and brought us all here
Waking and sleeping and yielding to gravity
Pointless to measure in years
Out in the desert your thoughts are as clear as the stars
You feel golden
You're billion year old carbon.
10.
Science Vs. Romance - Rilo Kiley
Facts versus romance
You go and call yourself the boss
But we're not robots inside a grid
Text versus romance
You go and add it all you want
Still we're not robots inside a grid
Zeroes and ones
11.
No One Said It Would Be Easy - Cloud Cult
You're a pretty human being
Yeah, you're a pretty human being
When it all comes crashing down
Try to understand your meanings
No one said it would be easy
This living, it ain't easy, oh
You were sewn together
with a tapestry of molecules
A billion baby galaxies
and wide open spaces
12.
Come Sing Me A Song - Sing-Sing
Come, sing me a song
And I will do anything you ask me to,
Oh yeah, oh yeah
13.
The Walls Are Coming Down - Fanfarlo
For atoms have gone as far as atoms will go
Your books write themselves
They line up in row after row
The walls the walls are coming down
The here and now is coming round
14.
When You Find Me - Joshua Radin ft. Maria Taylor
It's rolling around, it's pushing me down
It's keeping the good part of me closed
Can't you see that when I find you, I'll find me
Bonus Songs:
Highly Illogical - Leonard Nimoy (OH YES, THAT'S RIGHT)
Up The Ladder - Radiohead (I really wanted to include one Radiohead song and this mentions Doctor Who!)
She Blinded Me With Science - Thomas Dolby (LMAO I HAD TO INCLUDE THIS!)
