Summary: Dean rebels against his father for the first time.
Dean had never been like his younger brother in the sense that he’s never wished or longed for a normal life. He enjoys the semi-nomadic life of his family and he takes great pride in the family business so to speak. Or at least that’s the way he was until he was seventeen and in love for the first time.
All of a sudden he went from being the good little soldier that Sam accused him of being, to being full of rebellion for his father and the life his father wanted him to live. He was tired of John Winchester’s inability to put the hunt to a rest and it was all fueled by a girl who was blond, had just celebrated her sweet sixteen, and always wore a turquoise ring. Dean suddenly needed a normal life where he could hide his head in the sand when it came to the truth about the monsters and demons he hunted with his dad.
For once it was Dean who argued with his father about how unfair it was to be dragged from town to town and forced to be a solider in a war that he didn’t want to fight. He yelled about how his father was hunting a hopeless hunt and that he should give it up since he hadn’t found the demon that had killed his wife, Dean’s mother, yet then he never would. He yelled until he was hoarse that it was unfair that his father had turned his back towards love so that he could pursue revenge.
Six months later, they were in a different town miles away from Dean’s girlfriend’s hometown, and Dean had reverted back to being a good and obedient soldier. His first love was nothing more than a dull aching pain in his chest and he never spoke of her again. Instead he threw all of his energy into keeping his family together and destroying all of the monsters that he encountered.
