Gunn had fallen hard and fast for Faith, it was almost as if the brunette Slayer had stolen his heart the minute she had waltzed into the lobby of the Hyperion. Faith was unlike any of the other women he had know, she might look small and delicate, but she was a warrior just like he was. Angel had made a big deal about pairing them up when they had a case, partly to help Gunn get over Fred and Wes being together, and partly to help Faith get over the loss of Robin. He understood that she had loved someone else, and had lost him almost as soon as she had found him, but Gunn couldn’t help how he felt for her.
Every time he saw her fight the monsters or laugh at something one of the others had said or frown when she remembered something, Gunn felt his heart tighten in response. He was positive that she felt the same way about him, but it was something that they didn’t really talk about. It was more than just lust or a need to burn excess energy following a slay, but he was still nervous about what he was about to do. He couldn’t help but worry that maybe what they had was purely physical and he had built it up to mean so much more than it was. His hand clenched around the small velvet box in his pants’ pocket that contained the simple diamond solitaire. He had briefly thought about getting her a weapon, since it seemed more appropriate, but for some reason Gunn wanted to go the traditional route when he asked her to be his wife.
Maybe he was rushing things, but in their line of work, they didn’t necessarily have the security of a long and safe future in front of them. There was no time to waste on a courtship; they had both learned that the hard way. And he wasn’t going to waste another minute without telling her how he felt about her. He loved her and he wanted to make the rest of her days happy. Gunn slowly released the death grip on the ring box as he made his way down to the lobby, where she was talking with the others.
“Hey Faith, got a minute?” Gunn called out to her as casually as he could.
“Sure,” Faith replied with a grin as she made her way towards him.
