If she closed her eyes and let the gentle spring breeze caress her face, Faith could almost imagine that she was still free instead of being in prison. As she stood there with her eyes close and face to the wind, she could envision a life that she had always dreamed about. Something would always happen to shatter the illusion that she had so carefully built around her with the soft touch of the wind. And she would come crashing back to reality and to cold, hard fact that she was in prison for having killed a man. It was a harsh reminder that she alone was solely responsible for the failure of her dreams becoming a reality. She would always sigh as she turned back to the ugly institution that was her home with the weight of the truth pressing down on her. Yet, it never stopped her from doing the same thing day after day during the spring months.

Title: Thankful

The holidays had never been a big thing in the Lehane household; they had just been another day for Faith and her family. Another day full of violence, pain, and anger. Sometimes it seemed that the holidays were worse than the other days. Once she had become a Slayer, the holidays had just become reminders of the fact that she had no one. When she had first arrived in Sunnydale, she thought that it’d be the same. Faith hadn’t counted on Joyce Summers. Buffy’s mother made a big deal about inviting her over for Thanksgiving and as Faith sat at the table watching the Summers’ women interact together she had a glimpse of something that she had never had. Instead of feeling even more lonely or bitter resentment over it, Faith felt thankful for having been called as a Slayer. Maybe she could have a new life, one filled with love and happiness. She saw that a mother could actually love her children and not judge them because of the mistakes that their father had made. Faith smiled in response to Joyce’s question about the dinner that she had painstakingly prepared and something instead of the brunette Slayer healed.
