Kirk wasn't at all sure of how to describe his relationship with Spock, because it was a strange one, indeed. "If I were assigned to program the universal linguacode matrix, I would re-order the vowels 'U' and 'I' to share a closer proximity," he rattled off, an old joke between him and a few friends from his days at the Academy. There had been a Vulcan on their floor, and they'd spent a night at a bar trying to figure out Vulcan pick-up lines. "No, really though, I'm told he has a charm to him. He's a terrible dancer, though, don't tell him I told you. I can think of a few other people I'd rather bring to a nightclub back home."

He listened to her rattle off the departments on the base level. "Nicely done, Ensign. Do it again and I'll start to think you had alterior motives for letting me give you a tour," he teased, not stepping off on this floor. "The holding cells are down here, too, and also some spare rooms we gave the Vulcan refugees on our last mission. I'd go say hi to the scientists, but they're a little picky about when they're interrupted. Next floor is medical, and also all the evacuation shuttles." The fact that those were on the same floor had once saved his life, the day of his birth. Kirk would never forget that.
