[kirk & angela only, o1.]

Kirk wasn't at all sure of how to describe his relationship with Spock, because it was a strange one, indeed. "If I were assigned to program the universal linguacode matrix, I would re-order the vowels 'U' and 'I' to share a closer proximity," he rattled off, an old joke between him and a few friends from his days at the Academy. There had been a ( Read more... )

The Vulcan pickup line sent her into a fit of giggles. Spock was a fine officer, but the idea of his as anything but serious was almost unimaginable.

She shrugged innocently at the suggestion of ulterior motives. "Captain, I hate to challenge your judgment, but I believe it was you who suggested a tour. I simply agreed." Now that they were using proper titles, the banter amused her even more than before. Angela had yet to decided if this sort of friendliness was more inappropriate if she called him Captain, or less. Whatever. It was harmless, so that detail was unimportant.

As the transporter continued on it's way, she asked, "so, Captain, when you're not busy giving orders, what do you do to keep yourself entertained? Other than play tour guide for your best crew members, of course." Angela figured out she might as well take some time to get to know Jim Kirk the person, instead of Jim Kirk, the center figure of Academy gossip.

Angela had a fun laugh, and Jim couldn't help but smile. He had no mind of whether or not taking her around with the main purpose of showing her a good time - there were only so many things to do, on the ship - would be considered appropriate or not. He hadn't cared before, and found even less reason to care now that he didn't have anyone else to report to on the ship. People were going to talk, he was going to have fun. "I don't know, challenging the judgment of a captain got me pretty far," he laughed, remembering just weeks ago, running through the halls of the Enterprise to tell Captain Pike how wrong he was. Would he be the kind of captain who let others in his crew do the same to him? Jim had no idea yet ( ... )

"Oh, keeping me happy is pretty easy. I lived on Starbase 6 for almost eight years when I was kid. Space is almost more of a home than Earth." She smiled at the memory of growing up far from what most humans considered home. Sure, she never had much of a chance to play in snow or run around in a backyard, but she did meet all sorts of interesting people.

Brushing a few loose strands of hair from her face, she continued. "I read a lot too, actually. It's kind of my escape when I want some time to myself. As for actual socializing, I don't have the patience for chess but I like other games. And I really like just getting to know everyone. I think people work better when they're friends and not just crew mates."

Angela was quiet a moment, and then her eyes lit up. "Have you ever played springball?" the game wasn't very popular on Earth, so she explained. "It's Bajoran, and kind of like handball but you can body check the other person to ruin their shot." She grinned. "We should play some time."

"So do I. But you'll see once we handle our first big mission how quickly everyone'll get behind each other." Spock, whether he knew it or not, was a big help in making people feel good about themselves and the crew around them. Because if Spock said you were doing something right, everyone knew you really were doing it right. "Just be careful who you get to know. I don't know if you've heard, but -" Jim leaned in to her side, lips close enough to whisper in her ear - "getting to know people is apparently off-limits around here."

Ruffling a hand through his hair, Jim's eyes lit up and he punched a different set of numbers into the command. "Springball is one of my favorite games, Ensign," he said. "Now, you're not allowed to tell people you were up here, it's against regulation. And then, well, you'd have to answer to me for punishment, but still. This deck is upper officers' quarters. Top level." Not technically a part of the tour, and there certainly wouldn't be many members of his crew to meet up here, but the mention of ( ... )
