I would just like to say, that ever since I started my job that I'm at, I've had an issue with the fact that there is a men's fitting room, and a lady's fitting room. it sounds dumb but I truly have an issue with it. Occasionally you get a customer who wants to try something on, and you don't know what gender it is?? When I was trained, I was told to just put them into the fitting room they're already walking toward. I've heard stories about co-workers putting customers in the wrong side and they get angry and offended and we get embarrassed (I've also been told some co-workers get angry because if you're a lady, dress/look like a lady, and the like). There's been obvious men to woman cross dressing, do we put them on the men's side? Or the woman's side? I literally just put a lady who wanted to try on men's shorts into the men's side. my excuse if anyone asked would be because men's tried on clothes would go in the men's side. But I don't know, it was iffy and I got caught off guard.
But my main complaint about it all, is that it's not necessary for our store to have separate dressing rooms for each gender because our doors go all the way down to the floor, there's no way to peek. Being as how unnecessary it is, it is only set up to offend people. people get confused the way it is when they say they see the woman's sign and then ask where the men's fitting room is... and it's behind them. Woman try all the time to go into the men's side anyway because they can't read the signs. But getting to my main point, what about transgender people? Boys and men who identify as girls and woman or vise versa. There's no need for genders to be separate in a dressing room. I don't know if bathrooms are necessarily as much of an issue because if a man identifies as a woman and dresses like one, in my opinion they should be able to go into the woman's bathroom without anyone saying anything. Even if I wasn't so gung ho about lgbt stuff, if I was in the bathroom and a man dressed like a lady came in and used a stall, what is that to me? Nothing. So I wouldn't say anything anyway because it's not hurting me none. now if he was watching me or touching me, then obviously that's affecting me and obviously I'd go to someone about it.
Anyway, I keep wanting to go to management about taking off the gender signs of the fitting rooms, but I don't know if they'd let me do anything about it. I mean honestly if all of the woman's fitting rooms are full, I will put a woman in the men's side even if there are men in there. when I was being trained they said we couldn't do that, but we're not set up like how TJ Maxx is set up or anything anyway where people could be having sex and you wouldn't know it. We don't have a giant fitting room area, and now with the new- ish rules you can't leave the fitting room when there's someone in them anyway. So if you heard moaning you can tell them to knock it off haha.
I don't know why this issue bugs me that much, but I've been quiet about it for 3 and a half years so I dunno.
