A lot of Subaru Foresters have been changing hands lately, it seems.
It's not much of a secret that I've wanted a new (or newer) car for a while now. I've always had this nagging feeling that I could be getting more car for my money. I had been looking at 2007's online (Pontiac Vibe, Toyota Matrix, etc) but nothing really spoke out to me. Then
midnightcoder uttered those fateful words: "Why not look for a used Forester?" So, last Sunday I was cruising around the Subaru website and found this '04 Forester being sold by a new Subaru dealer in Wilmington:
Isn't it so cute?? And so red. Yum. Best of all, it's only got 25,000 miles on it - that's a quarter of the miles my current car has, and that means it still has a long way to go before the original powertrain warranty expires (at 60,000 miles). And it costs about the same as my current Forester. So I arranged for a test drive, which took place yesterday. I found that this Forester is very much similar to my existing one, except that a lot of features have been refined and improved. Consider that thing SOLD!! I still have to arrange financing and stuff, but I've put my down payment in already, so that car is MINE. Muahahahaha. :) My dad helped me come up with a name for it too: BIG RED. Haha.
While we were at the dealership, my parents test drove a Subaru Legacy, which they were very impressed with. After that we went down to the auto show in Boston to take a look at other new cars. My dad is looking to replace his '98 Ford Contour and wants what he calls "an old man's car" - a spacious sedan with power everything and all the bells and whistles. While we were there, we looked at some fun non-contenders as well, such as this Mini convertible:
The fun thing about the auto show is that you can sit in all the cars and imagine what it would be like to own them. :) Although I knew just from my own tradeshow-coordination experience that all of them had their batteries taped and held 1/8 of a tank of gas or less, ha. Plus, they all had their stick shifts removed. So they weren't going anywhere.
Now, as for those other Subarus changing hands. I'll be selling Misty to
midnightcoder. He has always really enjoyed driving my car and is psyched to be buying his own car for the first time. AND, I "sold" a co-worker of mine on the Forester and he showed up to work the other day in an '05. "You were the major influencer in my purchasing decision," he said (I love the gratuitious use of marketing terms!), "but if anything goes wrong it will be YOUR fault!" LOL.
