Politics...ugh!

It is hard to miss all of the people on my friends list (on here and in life) that are politically active.

I cannot even fathom how people are into this as much as they are.  It amazes me daily.  Don't get me wrong, I am not saying to do so is wrong.  People should be passionate about whatever they feel it important.  So please don't think I am taking a shot at you.  I am just saying "politics" do nothing but make me a bit sick to the stomach.  So, I normally avoid them when I can.  I do vote, because I think that is important, but I avoid political conversations any time I can.

Saying that.  I do think that what Bush has done to this country is a travesty.  We have no reason to still be in Iraq and the fact that we are is a shame.  Not to mention what has happened to our economy and a ton of other things I don't even want to get into.  So, I do have political views, I just don't normally voice them.  :)

Here are a few other reasons why I hate politcs:
  • It splits the country in two.  How can we be united when we are always so against one another when it comes to our own government?
  • Whether you are a repulican or democrat, it is hard to believe anything ANYONE says.  Even your own choice.
  • It turns into a bashing campaign.  Finding dirt on the other one running and making sure everyone knows about it.  It turns more into a bashing campaign than what their political viewpoint is.  It is sad.
  • The closest of friends can get into heated arguments over who they are voting for.  People get very touchy and defensive when the topic comes up.  Even worse than the argument, it just makes for ackward moments.
  • It is a broken system.  Only in america could the president who wins the popular vote not win the election.
Those are just a few reasons off the top of my head as to why politics annoys the hell out of me.

The other thing is that I am an optomistic person and politics make me cynical.  It is hard for me to think my one vote will determine much here in New York (democrat state) or back in Oklahoma (republican state).  Maybe if I moved to Ohio or Florida, where my vote could mean something.  I still vote, but I hate how cynical I am towards it all.

Yet, saying all of that.  I find myself caught up in it a bit more this year.  I think mostly due to how little I like the Bush adminstration and what they had done to this country.

It makes me feel dirty inside though, and I hate that feeling.

new york, politics, republicans, oklahoma, democrats
