But it is a decent tired. I got up early, 7:30am (for me, that is very early), gathered some of my needed things, and made my way to our Barony's Academia. Sadly, no one informed me that my first class was pushed back two whole hours to 11am, not 9am, which is why I got up so early. Ah well, it's ok. I had forgotten my sewing box, and my scribal papers to draw on, so I had time to go back home and get them. I then spent a few minutes in the scribal gathering, where I met the Kingdom's bard, Lady Alie (I don't remember how to spell her name, but it rhymes with daily).
I taught my first class on paper dolls, I mean rectangular costume patterning using graph paper and drawing up a flattened body image to use for a design body. I had two students, and it went by quickly. We also went over some construction thoughts on gusset placing and I went over the basics of my men's shirt, and my ladies Tudor smock that I had brought with me.
Then I went to make photocopies for the second class, then grabbed lunch at Arby's, brought it back to munch on while people finished off their ghillies in another class, and then enjoyed a fingerloop braiding class, that helped me to deal with tension a bit better. I also learned that embroidery floss may not be suitable for braid making; using cotton pearl, or the rayon floss to mimic silk, or other types of cords would work better. But I now have a dark blue and golden yellow cord to add to my collection, and it is long enough to wear a nice pendant with (and I think I know which jewel I want to put on it). I was happy to finish it just before my second class was due to start.
Then it was time for my hand sewing class which again had two students, one of which was about 9yo or so. I made sure to encourage him, but not tell him how to make his stitches "perfect", because well he's 9. That he wanted to actually LEARN how to hand sew was wonderful, and I hope he does more. The students made a pin cushion (thank you
kass_rants for your info) and then a demo sample of an eyelet.
Then it was time to head out, as our security person had to head home.
rwfranz decided to head over to the BBQ party and bardic circle, since we have the pleasure of the kingdom's bard attending. Since I was tired and missed my kids, I just went to the store for some basics, dropped off Roger, and then went home to crash for a short bit before dinner. And thus was my day at Academia.
I realize that I do enjoy the company of these good people. They are very laid back, and I enjoyed chatting with them, as much as I could during classes. I will keep some other thoughts to the next post.
