Michael Butler and John Tipton, are getting married this summer!!
And I had to read about it in the local paper, front page news even.
http://www.fresnobee.com/263/story/668646.html Here's a clip:
The corner florist shop in the Tower District has a window display of wedding flowers and a male mannequin in a rainbow-striped Speedo -- gay pride meets nosegays.
If anyone would know same-sex couples who are planning to wed, it likely would be 51-year-old florist Michael Butler, who is humming and arranging a vase of gladiolas.
Indeed, Butler does know someone affected by the recent California Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage. He blushes.
"I haven't told anyone yet ..." he says, and employee Renee DeMusiak rushes to turn down the radio so she can hear what he says.
Butler gets teary-eyed.
"I'm going to propose."
A few days later, onstage as grand marshal of the Gay Pride parade, Butler drops to one knee and asks John Tipton, his partner of 16 years, to marry him.
Their wedding will be this summer.
I just emailed them a congratulatory email. Rob & were wondering if they would take this opportunity. I only hope the state constitutional amendment does not get passed, as I would not want this taken away from them.
And I have a pdf of this article with color pics, in case anyone wants to read it and can't get it from the site.
