Starting sewing

May 06, 2008 11:56

This is an old post that I started a few days ago, and then my computer stalled before I could post it.

I finally started on my loose gown, and the sewing has been good. I never did find the time or energy to sew at the Con, so now I am hoping it can be done in time (but most likely not). It may be constructed, and then beading details can come in later.

I am trying the flatlining technique mentioned in the directions, and realized that not all seams should be at a half inch to hold them down, since the front will be bound in a smaller amount, so that edge was pretty close to the edge.

I am also playing around with the trim and beads, trying to figure out placements. I first thought of beading the hell out of the gold and black looped trim, but I don't want to drive myself insane. So, I think interspersed beads with one dangling on the main trim will look good and not drive myself nuts. I will be ordering glass pearls to use, since the local store only carries small quantities of those, and not in sizes and types I need.

I've now flatlined all the main pieces, except for the sleeves. I hope to start in on the trimming today.
