More foresleeves

Nov 07, 2007 22:56

Well, I've been working on the foresleeves again. And I messed up, I made them with eight pleats instead of the ten pleats in the image (five are seen, presumably five are on the other side). But otherwise, they look good. Only ones who will know I messed up are reading this entry. Nice thing is with the pleats, I can see the different colors in the shot taffeta rather nicely, even as the pleats want to stay loose, and not crisp.

I am thinking that Mary Guildford's sleeves might be gold silk organza, or whatever the type of the period would be, maybe gold tissue? Or would that be cloth of gold? I am confusing myself with what I've read some time ago. Maybe I will make the next pair from gold silk organza, with something underneath to hide the base fabric, probably the gold dupioni I bought some time ago and haven't used. And I will make sure to drape another foresleeve pattern with the ten pleats.

I've made up the foresleeve, ready to hand sew the seams closed, make up and the puffs, and sew on the ouches tomorrow. I am a bit tired, as I've not yet adjusted to the time shift. I am also glad I have the wool partlet ready, as it appears the expected highs will be in the upper 60s, with a decent chance for rain. I will definitely be bringing my surcoat as well, just in case I need its added layer.

Well, off to bed.
