I luv when a plan comes together.

I love Margo's Patterns yahoo group. The people there are so wonderful to bounce ideas off of, and get some great ideas as well.

I will be taking the advice of most of you who said to go with the wool for the gown to save my health. But clothsprogs and Sharon both suggested using the taffeta as the trimmings on the wool, and clothsprogs also suggested using black and gold for fine details, and I was thinking of welts of black velvet, and I have plenty of gold cording. Not to mention the kirtle will be in gold/peach where it shows, like the forepart and foresleeves.

So, to reiterate in my brain, and so I know what to order now...
Kirtle of yellow linen (order), with fore part and fore sleeves of gold/peach shot silk taffeta (already ordered). Interlined with hemp canvas (already ordered).
Gown of dark red wool (need to order), turn back sleeves of wine/black shot silk taffeta (order a bit more fabric), guards of same taffeta, welts of black velvet (have), with gold trimmings (have), lined in orange linen (order).

The linen will be cheaper to order by 20 yard special from www.fabrics-store.com. Since it won't be seen much, I've gone for basic if somewhat slubby linen, because it will cost about $5.50/yd with shipping and tax included. The dyes from www.dharmatrading.com will have to be ordered, along with dye supplies, which I already planned to order for the indigo dying I need to do while it is still nice out. Surprisingly, it came out about the same to dye my own linen, as it would to order the linen, but no one carries orange linen that is the right weight or color. So I may as well dye it myself.

I love when I get excited about a project, and I am excited now. Which is why I am writing this when I should be writing something else and get that finished and done (it nearly is) and give my arm and shoulder a rest before I begin this project. Oh, I almost forgot, I have a couple other sewing projects to do as well... like pants that fit, and a nice summer top. Must work on that first. Well, it's good to be excited.
