Grandma

My Grandma had a heart attack yesterday. Luckily she got to the hospital and was treated fairly quickly, and she seems to be on the mend. But it was scary, because she is 86, and while she's quite healthy for 86...she's still 86. And of course it made me think once again about how much I am not ready for THAT yet, even though rationally I have to acknowledge that it's a sooner-rather-than-later possibility. I've just been spoiled by having so many relatives live well into their 90s.

Joe and I went to visit her yesterday. Here are just a few of the most awesome moments:

Me: So the ambulance came and got you today?
Grandma: Well, actually it was this big burly cop first. And I said, "I hope you're not here to arrest me, I'm sick."

Grandma: They put in two stents. I thought stent was something you did at a nightclub.

Nurses' Aide bringing dinner: Are you hungry?
Grandma: I'm Italian, does that tell you anything?

After she started eating dinner:
Grandma: This fish is overcooked.
Me: Is any of the rest of it ok?
Grandma: It's generally devoid of flavor.
Me: Sounds about right.

So far she seems to be doing well. I haven't had an update since this morning but at that point she'd had a good night and was ok, so...hopefully more good news will be forthcoming.
