Sirius XM Radio Hanukkah
Sounds: Traditional Hanukkah music, Holiday music from Jewish artists, A slice of Jewish culture
Positives: It's not just Hava Nagila. A lot of different music represented here from different artists. I caught a really interesting documentary on Jewish culture and points of view
Negatives: There seemed to have been some special programming on the channel that I wasn't aware of. Now while I didn't get a chance to check the website where all the programming was probably planned out, they didn't do a lot to highlight what's coming up on the radio
# of mozzletovs: 4.5 out of 5
Overall: Obviously not about my culture but an interesting look into others' culture
Sounds: Party music
Positives: Had a very extensive playlist with not many artist or song repeats, some things that haven't been heard by most in decades. Imaging for the station is very party atmosphere
Negatives: It was a little confusing and felt a little stretched at times when you'd hear a liner that said "this is a party hit that has stood the test of time!" and you're questioning if that really is the case and how exactly they came up with that designation.
# of glasses of champagne: 4 out of 5
Overall: I'm not entirely sure what denotes something as a party hit. Is it something that everybody's likely to sing along to? Is it hit songs that you've heard again and again? I'm not sure, but this was a uniquely mixed atation.
Sounds: Rock versions of Christmas songs
Positives: Some good rocking alternative from new bands
Negatives: Rocking from older bands like Elvis and Beach Boys is kinda played out at this point, and well covered on the other christmas channels
# of air guitars under the missletoe: 3 out of 5
Overall: The channel did have some great rock going, although not as loud as i hoped it would be with the Rock/Alt name
Sounds: Rock versions of Christmas songs. Strange versions/covers of Christmas songs. Christmas parody songs.
Positives: You have a second place to catch songs from Rock/Alt Christmas
Negatives: The strange Christmas songs showed up every 5 songs or so, the rest of the time it was just the same stuff you'd find on Rock/Alt Christmas
# of knees in the balls under the missletoe: 2 out of 5
Overall: XM used to have a channel called Special XMAS which very well represented this genre, even though it did have a fair bit of repeats. This channel doesn't even come close to Special XMAS
Sounds: 70% neo soul and r&b Christmas songs from the 80s to today, 30% old school soul from the 60s and 70s
Positives: Old school soul was rocking the Christmas
Negatives: Neo soul and R&B was slowing things down and making it too lite
# of fros under the missletoe: 3 out of 5
Overall: I suggest next year if the playlist is big enough, separating the Soul & R&B into their own channels. Definitely keep the fro channel logo though; it reminds me of Kelly Bell everytime I see it
