Sounds: 40s pop, big band, crooners
Positives: Music you're definitely not going to find anywhere on regular radio
Negatives: Certainly some artist repeats (Glenn Miller Orchestra has always been in heavy rotation here). Imaging needs more work as station IDs sounded like they were cut off because they hadn't been redone yet for the new company and didn't have a retro feel that you'd expect from this kind of channel
Blastability: Low. Not really my type of music
Overall: Great that it's a channel that's out there available, but I can't help but think it won't be around the sat airwaves for much longer as people who lived during the time of this music are dying off
Sounds: Traditional and modern gospel
Positives: Another genre not presented on regular radio. A wide variety of artists and not just all rolling around in the aisles at church music; there are some really good rock and smooth r&b jams to be had here too...and some rap!! ha
Negatives: Another channel I'm not really impressed with the imaging on. DJs cut in but don't really impress with delivery or what they have to say
Blastability: Another low one because not really my type of music
Overall: Glad to hear it, but won't hear it again til next WTD :)
Sounds: Adult Alternative
Positives: Goes very deep with unknown artists and tracks. DJs have the perfect delivery and provide some good information. Going into the XM archives to pick out some great live performances
Negatives: DJs get a little chatty. I also agree with others' assessment that the channel is still looking for its identity after the merger
Blastability: Pretty high
Overall: I've only ever listened to The Loft in passing. To the occasional listener, you could never tell the difference between The Loft and XM Cafe so I may be off in saying that since XM Cafe was replaced, The Loft is trying to be a little bit more like XM Cafe playing a lot of newer unknown artists and not as many older established artists. Only time will tell.
