On Valentines’ Day, Juliet opens the door to the smell of burnt cheese. Jack looks up toward her guiltily, holding David.
“Is he okay?” Juliet touches David’s dark head.
“Yeah,” Jack frowns, “He just-got hungry early-and then he spat up on me and I completely forgot that I left the gratin in the oven.”
She looks at the mess on the countertop and tries not to laugh.
“It was supposed to be a surprise,” he laments, “it was supposed to be romantic.”
She grins, leans in to kiss him gently while David pats their faces.
“Jack, it is.”
