Walking down the hallway, Swan was thankful that she'd been spared the clouds of cupids that seemed to be following some of her fellow students and even some of the teachers - much to their horror, it seemed. The blonde shifted her bag that was slung over her shoulder, the books in it weighing it down considerably, and her eyes scanned the parchment she had in her hand. There were notes scrawled on it, mostly pertaining to whatever homework it was that she needed to get done, but done of it had really sunk in. Other things, and people, were occupying her thoughts at present.
All that in mind, she wasn't really looking where she was going as she walked down the hallway, although she became absently aware of the sound of an acoustic guitar. Swan couldn't tell you a think about music or the styles of play, but she still had a pretty good idea who it was. Turning a corner, she leaned against the wall as she spotted Ren.
Playing out the basic melody, Ren was able to quickly fish out the sheets of music for them and, while playing, made a few small changes to the arrangements. He didn't bother with words this time like the song he worked on before, he rather work on the stuff he knew best, which was his guitar compositions.
Turning to the voice he looked up from his work to see Swan standing there and he gave her a small gentle grin. His conversation with Genesis last night was enough to put his mind to ease at the idea of talking to Swan again after her catching him with cocaine. "Hey. You're keeping yourself busy, I see." He said noticing the heavy bag at her side, no doubt filled with heavy texts.
"As are you," she countered with a slight smile. Swan glanced down at her bag and rested a hand on it, the other sitting at her hip. "Just Potions. Nothing exciting, really." Potions that might help with addiction, but really, nothing exciting... Inwardly, she rolled her eyes at herself.
She watched him play for a moment, wondering if taking the... drugs (she couldn't quite reconcile something as dangerous as cocaine with Ren, although she was entirely aware of the situation) had effected his music somehow. Swan would ask but... music seemed like a personal thing. She'd barge her way into anything for someone's safety, but other things she was happy not to risk intruding on. Instead, she resorted to standard conversation.
Giving her a quizzical look, Ren didn’t comment. He knew Swan was thinking of so many other things to say to him but she wasn’t willing to speak about it. Figures he would have to answer the unasked questions.
“Fine,” He said with a small shrug, “I haven’t taken another hit if that’s what you’re wondering.” Sparing a small glance at those books, he could see that Swan had taken the liberty to go research more then just potions required for her class and he had a small suspicion that he was the reason behind it. He wasn’t going to comment on it however, potions wasn’t much of his thing anyways so there was no point starting a conversation there. Like Swan had just said, it wasn’t exciting.
Putting the sheet music back into his guitar case he continued on talking, “I’ve mostly been hanging out down in Slytherin talking to Genesis. I told him what was going on.” He sent a look to Swan in hope that she caught on that he actually had told Genesis everything.
The blonde kept her gaze at the floor for a moment, thinking over his words before glancing back at Ren and carefully tucking a lock of hair that had fallen forward behind her ear.
"That's good.... on both counts." And, once again, Ren surprised her. "Oh? ... You did?" She wasn't sure what to say, for the meantime she started threading her fingers through part of her hair and braiding a small segment. "What-- how is Genesis?" She almost did roll her eyes that time. This was ridiculous. "I'm sorry Ren... it's still a little... overwhelming to think about it all. I can't imagine what it was like for you." She smiled apologetically.
Shaking his head a bit, Ren gave a bit of a smile. So Swan had just as much problem talking about it as he did. It certainly did help that it wouldn’t be a main point during their conversations. “I guess I’m the first person you know with my kind of problems, huh?” He said with a small laugh, “you don’t have to apologise to me about it. Really.”
He continued to play his guitar but a lot softer then before. He just needed something to occupy his hands with right now. “It was hard to say it at first,” He admitted, “I was avoiding the subject to the point where Genesis was close to snapping my neck. Saying it out loud sort of made it sink in that I really do have a problem.”
Pausing slightly he looked up to give Swan a reassuring grin, “But overall, it actually went pretty good. It was just us hanging out, drinking beer and smoking so it was really relaxing. He got me to laugh a few times too and after I told him, Genesis just acted like…well, Genesis.”
"It's... not a situation I am used to." She let the bag of books slide down her arm to rest on the ground, and sat on a rather conveniently positioned bench against the wall. "Still, I'm always there for my friends." Her brow furrowed slightly at the thought. "Just... don't get into a fight with Tifa or Quistis." The blonde smiled slightly. "Impossible though such a clash would be to avoid, of course..." she added jokingly. The two girls were probably her best friends, and she couldn't quite imagine a situation where Ren wouldn't get along with them... except maybe concerning rules. That said, her discovery the other day was not something she would be sharing, for a plethora of reasons.
"Genesis is inclined to be Genesis," Swan said seriously, even as a smile tugged at her lips. "...It's good you told him. It'd be terrible if that ever came between you two." Her tone was teasing, although there was still some seriousness to what she was saying. Somehow, they formed a trio, and Swan was not eager to see Ren's friendships suffer

Ren gave a nod at what Swan was telling him. Now that it wasn’t a complete secret, he might be able to rely on both of them to help him get over his addiction. Really, Ren wanted to quit but, the physical pain was unbearable for him after a while and the psychological dependancy was just as bad. If the others could help him get him past that, then he would be able to recover hopefully before graduating

She might not know the details of what Ren was going through, but Swan had done a little research and she planned to continue. For now she would keep it to herself, but once she made some progress she would let him know

“Ikkaku is pretty intense, the fact that Quistis can keep up with him and still remain calm is nothing short of amazing,” Ren said with a small laugh, “Sometimes I wonder if she’s human.” Ren knew that physically he couldn’t keep up with Ikkaku even if he tried. He really had no ability when it comes to fighting nor did he have the drive to go to the dueling club and have battles against other students. He was more of a peacemaker if anything and his idea of competition was gambling while playing cards and mah jong. Swordplay and magic really weren’t his thing.
He knew Swan was going to question him and he was pretty glad she did, despite he figured that she knew what he was talking about but just wasn’t willing to say it. “I mentioned how you found out but, it was kind of hard,” He said with a small grin, “I have to admit, I don’t remember much of what happened then because I was so out of it. So, I really have to ask, did anything else happen right after I kissed you?”
"Oh, she's definitely human." Swan smiled and looked down for a moment. "I think she maintains calm for the same reason most do. Even if she is not calm, she can at least control things so they are not quite so overwhelming." Her eyes became a little distant for a moment. Lana, Tifa, Quistis, countless others at the school. They all stayed calm because they needed to, herself no doubt included. "Dealing with the ups and downs the way Professor Rangiku or Professor Pendragon do seems nothing short of exhausting. Which is perhaps why I like Professor Ashelia so much," she explained, finally looking back at Ren. Still, for all their calm, Swan suspected that if that ever broke than the repercussions would be severe.
"Uhhh..." Swan was hoping that there wasn't a faint blush crawling up her neck, although it was entirely possible. "...No..." She cleared her throat. "No, you just fell asleep and I sat with you for a while. It was a slightly surreal experience," she noted with a wry smile.
Ren gave a small smile and continued to play. His method of staying calm has always been his cigarettes but, right now he wasn’t stressed to need one. After chain smoking a pack with Genesis in the Slytherin common room he was quite sated and lighting up another one indoors, especially in the middle of the hall, might be a bad idea right now. Besides, the weather wasn’t as freezing as it was a while ago and now he knew better then to walk out on the lake.
Ashelia’s name coming up made Ren think a bit. He was wondering how she was handling the current situation with Link. The boy was under her watch so the revelation that he was a werewolf must be bringing some stress towards their head of house. “There are times where feeling calm just isn’t enough and once faced with something where you’re emotions are wanting to surface…you end up feeling lost.” He turned to Swan slightly with a smile, “It works for some people but, after everything we’ve been through, think you can keep staying calm through all that’s going to happen
( ... )
Swan's thoughts were running along the same lines as Ren's. Perhaps it would be a good idea to offer some support... Or perhaps not. Odds were Professor Ashelia was busy enough without the clamoring of students. Swan's eyebrows rose a little before she smiled. She leaned against the wall and glanced out of the window, the view catching her gaze as she thought over her answer. "I can try," she finally responded, and her voice had a slightly sad note to it. "All we can do it try, sometimes. I try to be calm so that if something terrible does happen... I can react in the most logical way possible." The blonde shrugged a little. "Whatever happens, I'll be the calm one."
She couldn't help laughing quietly at Ren's disbelief. "It's fine, Ren. You'd had a rough day. Putting it lighty." There was a pause as she arched an eyebrow and looked at him curiously. "Oh? ... How's that?"
Ren stopped playing momentarily to listen to Swan speak instead of his guitar. It was a good way of thinking but, Ren knew that once you get into situations, you have to worry on instinct sometimes. Thinking logically is more of an afterthought instead of a reaction. Maybe that was just Ren’s thinking because he wasn’t that calm a person, just low energy towards most things. “Calm is good but, you know, logic can’t always solve everything.” He was wondering how calm she would remain after this
( ... )
Realising that Ren has ceased his playing, Swan looked back over at him. It seemed a little ridiculous talking to Ren about the importance of being calm, truth be told. It wasn't like she could remember an instance where he'd lost it or gone off the deep end... that was a role more suited to Ikkaku, and once again Swan found herself wondering how her friend could possibly cope with dating him. Some things were to remain mysteries, it seemed. "...Maybe not, but it can be a good place to start..." She trailed off as he approached her
( ... )
Of course, Ren was expecting Swan to be surprised by the offer. It was pretty random but, after everything from getting attacked by a squid, getting hospitalized and, of course, the drugs, Ren really couldn’t really see him doing much else with his time without her. It wasn’t his first time with a girl so this situation wasn’t new to him at all but, he couldn’t remember if Swan had ever gone out with anyone during their years at school so he had no idea what was going through her head at this moment.
He was a bit worried when she was hesitant though and was instinctively going to back away, thinking she was going to say no. But then she pulled him back into another kiss and he couldn’t help but give a little grin before kissing her back, his lips moving against hers while his hands moved to the back of neck and the small of her back, pulling her closer.

"Hi."
